I made a jig for the sight line but it's not looking too good as the line barely clears the bottom of the screen which I think might be a fail. If I raise the seat then I lose the forward vision as the roof dash/top of screen cuts off my view. Sightline down the specified angle; This confirms that no scoop can be fitted for the test anyway Scoop has its first guide coat of primer on it - some small areas need a little skim of filler but it looks pretty straight now. Ignore the paint runs - I sprayed it in the dark at 11 oclock last night, lol.

Excuses, excuses :-) All my spraying looks like that prior to sanding.
With the Pop screen being so narrow there isn't much room for manoeuvre.

Well some good news!!! I cut some new foam padding for the seat today, I added 1" extra in the seat and 1.25" in the backrest (only seat cover on back so far and only 1" foam in the seat originally) and I now have a decent sightline even with the seat at its rearmost position. New sightline; Carried on from mark on window (confirmed with laser level) the scoop 'just' clears by a little over a millimetre!!

More than a millimetre? Plenty of clearance :-) A pass is a pass, no matter how close to a fail it is.

Agreed! Laser level (now I've found it) shows scoop might not pass but thats ok I'll just leave it off.

I am amazed at the hoops you have to jump through to get a Hot Rod on the road. Here in North America the drones who are trying to save us from ourselves are tempered by the fact that the Hot Rod market is billions of dollars and lots of jobs that they would be getting rid of.
I applaud your dedication to getting this on the road.
Once it is on the road, what level of compliance enforcement do you face? ie the scoop, if it passes without it, and later on the scoop should find itself on the car, does anyone care or ever become aware? How about when you sell?

My understanding is you do all this to make it pass and then you just make whatever changes you want afterwards because it doesn't need to go through again. A lot of the legislation does seem rather pointless for a car like this, particularly radius edges and whatnot.

What you fit after the test is legal up to the point it contravenes construction & use regs or any motoring laws or alters the car beyond our 8 points system. Once it passes IVA it is back to a full 14 points so I can do a fair few major mods before going below 8 points again - where it would legally be liable to pass IVA once more. Ref the old tall scoop - it's fairly likely if I were stopped the police would not like it and I would be liable for a fine or worse. Ref the new scoop - the police would be fine with it as they don't even know about the 'sightline' required for IVA and as it does not interfere with forward vision they would not even think about it. Vulgalour is mistaken about doing whatever changes you like, see first paragraph for the constraints. Selling is no issue as it (will be) registered as a 2016 car so fully legal in every sense possible, unlike many of the modified cars on the road today. The radius rules are actually worthwhile, they minimise injury in the event of an accident, my build has difficulty as the car was made 60 years before the regs were drawn up, so parts on it are sharper than a more modern car. An update is the scoop is now in it's first coat of gloss, its looking well, some minor filler work will see it perfect. I found my fixed laser level & checked it - I think it's just a little tall to pass the test - I could leave it on to find out, but I think I'll leave it off as there are probably many other borderline parts on the car so best not to have too many 'iffy' parts on for the test.

That makes more sense of it than I'd been led to believe. I was under the impression that the restrictions were more of a deterrent against modifying rather than setting up a baseline to bring all heavily modified cars into a sensible safe zone that you could then modify from. As ever, this thread is proving to be informative and dispelling quite a few myths about what you can and can't do within the rules.
I imagine most of your work is, as you say, updating a 60 year old design to modern standards. Doing a car just 20 years younger would be considerably easier, I expect.

Yes,a more modern style would have a lot more stuff fitted as std, so making it much easier to pass.

Still following and admiring the build annnnnnd detail. Don't know if I mentioned it earlier, I found the SVA (as it was then)testers very helpful and gave free, good advise. Have you managed to stalk/befriend one yet? Could be a very helpful NBF. Anyway, Don't let the bar persons grind you down.

Looks good. Any bigger and it would have looked out of proportion with the rest of the car.

Finally we are a bit more caught up at work so we could run my parts. We punched out some 1.5mm ally sheet for the mesh that will fill the bonnet hole; and also the MkIII version of the rear lamp casing, top needs to be welded in but checking fit first.
