Your Pop looks so cool on the road. I actually think I prefer the current hoodscoop. I've only ever been in one Sit Up & Beg many moons ago - I was REALLY surprised just how narrow they are inside! I very much doubt I would fit these days! When is the strip action happening? Yes, I think I do as well - would not mind it a bit bigger though. Yes, pretty small inside, 1" between seats and 1" from seats to cage!

You didn't miss much, it's a tiny picture. Here is a screen grab. I stopped using Facebook a few months ago and I only drop in there to keep up with some car groups and local chatter as a silent lurker. Having started using it again this weekend I've found I don't quite understand how it works now. It all seems to be subtly different. So I assumed that I had tagged you via my reply to Collin (he's the bloke who owns the gold Anglia I was waffling on about previously) but evidently tagging is not a feature that works anymore (or I'm doing it wrong).

Oh, that was Popstalgia a couple of weeks ago - I probably did get that one. I thought you meant from yesterday.

I had a feeling it might have been from a previous event... but he actually only posted it last night, as far as I know. As to the comment... this is the chap with the gold Ford Anglia. We've met up a couple of times with Phil at a couple of things, so he's got the measure of me by now. Rest assured he knows I'm only joking.

Even if it were true, it would be more than fair to say the student has surpassed the master. *dons anti-flouncing suit*

Great video Mark
Two questions: 1. what's the clear thing at the top of the windscreen & 2. is the annoying knocking noise engine or transmision?

Nice video, gets across the atmosphere well, with the V8 burble and view over the scoop, good stuff. Now we need another one with a bit more acceleration. I was was wondering about the lens effect at the top of the windscreen too. Also your roundabout moment, how easily did it lock up? do you think another set of front wheels or tyres might be better for on the road or was it very hard braking that caused it

Great video Mark Two questions: 1. what's the clear thing at the top of the windscreen & 2. is the annoying knocking noise engine or transmision? Clear thing is a fresnel lens so I can see traffic lights when parked under them with a chopped roof and sitting in the back - very useful. Annoying knocking noise is the exhause note - it's bothered me from day one as it sounds like a cam lobe knocking - but after 2500 miles I know its not the case and you can't hear it on the outside - its just a nice deep burble. It's just an unfortunate audio inside the car noise - sounds far worse in the video than real life as the mic seems to pick up on that sort of noise.

It was fairly hard braking but it did catch me unawares as it was progressive and not from a quick stab of the foot. It did stop quick though but not without a bit of drama!

I almost didnt mention it because I understand the car is designed for the 1/4 mile, it was a good job it happened the first time at relatively low speed with space ahead. What about front wheels only ABS? In case you did have to hit the pedal hard in the rain. I think the Escort XR3's came from the factory with belt driven front only ABS

I skidded because I drove it beyond its limits - I was going to shoot out on to the roundabout to pass the slow car but I got caught out as a car was coming and I had not slowed down so had to stop from about 30 to zero in about 15 feet . My own fault.

Th epedal on the far right controls the amount of required braking as well

Poo. Wibblepoo *wellington* Off to a local car meet & it broke down tonight. Starting running rough on anything but idle, so limped it back home where I poked a bit at the carb, did some Wide Open Throttle pulls (neighbours must have loved that) and it cleared up. Took it out again and it seemed ok, until it didn't and it conked out. Hazards on and had to push it off the road. Local passer by offered to help and generally said nice things about it and after a minute it did start again but running rough. Managed to limp it back home again where it ran nice again? So, decided to go to the meet in it, but as I was concentrating on whether it was running ok or rough I went past our local speed camera...FLASH....FLASH ......curse word!!! Not sure of my speed but less than 35mph. Just when I had a clean licence again too Seemed to run ok until I was in the middle of the motorway roundabout where it started to conk out again, so floored it hard which resulted in it surging a few times & pinking a lot, but then running ok. Ran smoothly to the meet & back so I'm guessing it had some curse word in on of the carb jets, I'll strip it down this week to see if there is any debris in the bowls. Unwittingly at the meet I did something I have never ever done before, I locked the drivers door using the inner door lock and then shut the door - carefully checking I had keys in pocket before doing this! Came back later & unlocked door handle...........but door remained firmly locked *spangle* The inner door locks 'deadlock' the locks and are independant of the outer door locks.... Not possible to break into car without serious damage either..........hmmmmmm.......... Fellow car nuts all had a look in tool boxes and luckily my friend Colin had some Allen keys, so we took the passenger door handle off to see if we could operate the latch somehow through the handle hole. Luckily I built the car so I know how the parts work inside the door, a bit of thinking and picturing in my mind of the relevant parts and I managed to undo the deadlock - we refitted the handle and I opened the door. Phew!! I won't lock the door that way again. An eventful evening - unfortunately for all the wrong reasons
