I tried the 'poke a tiny screwdriver down the side of the folded tang' method but it did not really work. But someone else said to bend the little tang in the middle of the clip inwards as far as you can (which effectively jams the little ball tight to the tie) and this works very well. I got all the ties 3-4mm tighter using this method.
 My clearcoat arrived today so the bar got coated in silver base and a couple of coats of clear.
 I had fun drilling the stainless bolts out for the 'R' clips, the pillar drill was too fast and blunted the drills, ended up using the battery drill on very low speed which took a while but did not blunt the drills - had to dip the drill in cold water every 20 seconds but got there in the end.
 It seemed rude not to sand off the bolt markings and give them a polish   I had to remove the boot spares block to access fitting the towhook, I've got a couple of new bits to fit in it so I'll get that remade work tomorrow.

We had some spare coloured foam at work, seemed rude not to use a bit. It's no-where near as pink as the photo shows, camera did not get the colour very well.   And refitted in the car, not sure about the red, but we also have blue......   The extra exhaust wrap turned up today so I could finish wrapping the headers.  They got painted and refitted to the car;  I've gone through two heat cycles so far - getting less smoky each time.
 I've always had a rubber 'mudflap' fitted to the bottom of the exhaust shield, it was 50mm deep. I've now made new ones at 127mm which totally protect the collectors.
 A bit easier to see here - if they prove too long I can cut a peice off the bottom.  They are a bit distorted at present as the rubber sheet has been rolled up for years, it should relax flat fairly soon.
 Wheelie bar centre bar now all repainted and back on the car - towhook fitted as we are off to the Supernats on Thursday so it will be towing the trailer tent.
 'R' clips now holding the bolts in - some paint protector film is fitted so the R clips don't scratch the paint when removed. I probably ought to cover the whole bar in the film really.

I like to be different I've towed the trailer to the drags, raced all weekend and hitched it up to drive home again, I got lots of respect from the racers that weekend. The strip commentator even mentioned it when I was racing  |

Back from the NSRA Supernats where I met braithwaiteBeen a bit busy so not had much internet time but the car behaved itself all weekend - gearbox(?) still 'whirrs' quietly when it shouldn't but it works properly so I'll have to keep investigating that one. I'll pull the governer soon as I'm wondering if that's the culprit - it's external so fairly easy to check. Interestingly the exhaust wrap has reduced the water temps of the engine by approx 10 degrees F, so thats good. Running around the campsite with open headers on tickover and it also sounds a bit different - I can hear each side of the car firing individually now - which is quite cool It was also quite cool doing the Saturday cruise on open headers - especially when we (several other rodders as well) accidentally ended up at a classic car meet on a village green. When I started it up to drive back I scared the daylights out of all of the people around the car - made my day |

Not posted much recently as I've been away for an epic 3 and a bit weeks tour of California (I managed to visit quite a few rod shops on the way as well) I could do a thread on it if anyone is interested? Anyway, back home now and first thing was to get straight back out the next morning with jet lag for the Bagshot breakfast meet. I got a really cool photo from a pro photographer who was there;  So, gettin dishy with it....Buy a stainless dog water dish and cut a big hole in it and drill some more holes around the edge, then dress a bump in the edge to clearance it.  Then make a gasket up to suit the fuel filler mount,  And fitted to the car - no more spills onto the tank paintwork.  I will be making a new tank this winter, it's currently a bit under 8 gallons, but I've designed a new one which will boost it to almost 12 gallons which will get the range up to a better amount. |

Well 6 months has gone by and nothing much to report.......until today At thr NSRA swapmeet recently I bought some 8mm thick felt underlay as a base for the new carpets that I've not thought about fitting for the past 7 years, lol. See, I can prevaricate just like sweetpea  The carpets that are in it are black and I thought good quality - but they soon proved not really to be what I wanted, though they have lasted well - just melted a bit over the exhausts under my feet. The new carpet will be a quality Wilton - currently getting samples, but likely to go for a dark grey for the floors and a very light grey for the gearbox tunnel, boot floor and between the rear tubs - (if I bother to cover the tunnel). Now there will be 16mm of carpet & underlay I'll need something to cover the edge up by the doors, so some 19 x 19 x 1.5mm aluminium angle was trimmed down to 16mm tall and shrunk a bit to fit the curve of the car.   The floor is bolted in along the edge to the sill, so the ally angle is drilled to fit using those bolts. Passenger side one fitted here - needs fine sanding & polishing on the mop for a chrome like finish now.  As an added bonus Phils car is coming back this weekend for some interior trim work, so more updates soon. |

Phil brought his pop back round today so we could start the interior trim - finally! A quick reminder of it;
This is where the wood panels had got to: painted with waterproofing compound. 
With the wood panels removed we started cutting the trim material to size.
Drivers door & boot panel shown here;
Door panel cut to size and bonded to the wood panel
and back on the car;
Bootlid panel finished and refitted,
  
Passenger door panel completed and refitted to the car. It may not look much but this was 7 hours work!
1205 hours.

Sometimes the like button is not a like but a nod, and sometimes you really need it to be more than a like. You got both variations in my responses. Your car, the build and status all makes me grin every time I see it. Especially the rear wing. And I thought that my front plate was dodgy :-) |
