Its getting closer Got a couple of hours in today, I got the torque converter out of the loft, half filled it with fluid & fitted it to the box. Checked supplied measurements and its fully engaged with 1/8" clearance to the flexplate when checked against block measurements. I'll double check this when the box gets mated to the engine. all looks good though. Also got the exhausts out of the loft, Catriona said "are you going to polish those?" (I wasn't) but now the seed is planted........... After an hour of polishing one is done; Close up; Damn her ideas I have to polish the other one now :incheek:

Inlet manifold back on now and all exposed areas touched in with epoxy primer, will go over with the gloss black tomorrow. Checked inlet with no gaskets, only a few thou clearance max on all faces so rubbers were glued on and gaskets/rtv sealant used where necessary. Exhaust crossovers were blanked off with the restricter plates. Should get the engine back in by the weekend

At last! the engine went back in today - hopefully for the final time. Gearbox mated up nicely with the correct clearance to the flexplate And going into the car; Engine in with exhaust fitted on one side just to see how it all looks It's handy having a removable bulkhead Propshaft fitted as well;

It could be running next week if I bodged some wiring, but I expect it will be in the new year before I start it - almost scared to do it now!

Today saw many hours spent with not a lot to show for it. Drilled & tapped the gearbox for the dipstick tube, then looked at the Lokar instructions "do NOT undo the hose nut or try to shorten the cable" - hmmmm.........10 mins later the hose & cable were 4" shorter Then took the bulkhead off and fitted the rivnuts to mount the dipstick top mount. Also drilled a few holes in the bulkhead for ignition wires - need to find some grommets for 5mm panel thickness now? Lastly I filled the rear axle with the LSD oil - jeez does that stuff smell! got 2 and 3/4 litres in the diff, does that sound about right? Then I set the diff pinion angle.

Looking excellent BP. A thought re the air filter. How about getting a suitable sticker made up that fits nicely in one of those quadrants, similar to those used in the muscle car era?

Hi Seth, that's exactly what I had in my head great minds think alike. Trouble is, nothing seems to stick to the poly filter housing - its like teflon!

If you can get a paint to stick to it that would solve the problem with careful masking you could mark out an area the sticker would then cover.

Paint definitely wont stick, its polypropylene so a very 'sticky' sticker might be ok.
Handbrake is fairly easy to reach actually, just reach between seats and back a bit. Not my preferred place but the only place it would fit. Being an auto it will only really be used for parking.
