Wow, just looked this morning and we are 90% there!!!
THANKYOU for everyone who has contributed or is still going to. Some of the donations are huge and far more than I ever expected people to make - you have all been fantastically generous, it's made me (and Andy) quite emotional.
What a fantastic community Retro Rides & Hot rodders are.

I think you will find the target has been exceeded by £100 already! What a fantastic and heartwarming result. Well done everyone…… And thank you Mark for taking the initiative to sort this mess out and for donating your time!

Potentially it could be, but that was mooted because he found it so heavy. The original orange car had Viva HA suspension and he was OK with that.
It was heavy as the whole lot was binding (and rubbish) I'm confident it will be fine with the new setup.

Found more horror bits tonight, machine screws holding calipers on and cut down bits of tube as spacers. 7mm one side of tube and just over 5 on the other side 😡 That would explain the weird wear patterns on the discs then. Fortunately I have a spare set of ford spacers for the calipers, but I'll need to source some proper shoulder bolts for them.

You deliberately doing this to wind me up Gnnash Grrind Snarll ..... I was going to comment on those bolts likely being what you found when I mentioned the discs as they really should be 10.9, or 12.9 when used with an alignment spacer - Absolutely not cut down 8.8 sets with a misalignment spacer. Small wonder that they need signed disclaimers (gagging orders) - Pity really as it brings into question the standards on everything they have done in the past and will do in the future. Although TBH Some of the stuff that you see in the show when looking closely make me cringe.

Makes you wonder if they have anyone with any technical competance overseeing the work, should not be using spring washers on a joint like this either, decent bolts, flat mounting faces, the correct torque and perhaps a dab of loctite.

Andrew, I feel your pain!
Off to bolt suppliers this morning, should get the right ones.
Kevin's, I'm fairly certain it's one person responsible for the horrendous work, with the rest maybe being unaware - if I'm being kind.

Quick. Cheap. Good.
You can do any two out of three.
I used to work with a bloke who could turn jobs around in less than half the time that I could, and who had an (almost) unerring knack for doing things to a standard that would last just as long as necessary and barely any longer. I hated working with him because everything he did was so shockingly shoddy to my eyes (and because he was quite an objectionable individual on a personal level). My boss loved him though.

Glen, I agree. If you can't do a job properly, don't do it at all. Darkspeed you can relax now; I'll need to trim the length a little.

Today saw a start of remedying the issues on the car. I have reassembled the front suspension & steering to check the heights ready for taking measurements for the new crossmember. I did a couple of smaller jobs after that, Andy had bought a boot handle (all it had was the escutchion cover for putting a square peg T handle through which is not really practical for Andy with his limited hand movements) so this was a little win. I started by carefully opening up the lock hole with a step drill and then with a dremel & a file adding the slots for the lock tangs; Th bootlid was then marked for the screws.
The bootlid was then tapped for M5 threads (it has a thick reinforcing plate inside) and the lock fitted. I'll need to paint all the raw edges to finish but otherwise it's done. I did spend an hour stripping & rebuilding the drivers door lock handle as the key often jams, it's much improved but does rely on the door handle being in the right place to work smoothly - no photos of that though. Then it was on to stripdown time, the nose was removed first, And then the inner & outer wings; I thought I'd check the camber now the wings were off, drivers side here; and passenger side; I'm taking my car out to a local meet tomorrow, but will start on the radiator & engine removal tomorrow afternoon.

…and passenger side; Seriously? 😱 Is that “as built”, or is it just you throwing it back together for measurements?

IIRC welding of steering components is not allowed, that rack is plain scary Have an accident due to failure, they will throw the book at you. the steering arms would have been easier to run a die up them and then, shorten as needed. calliper hitting the wishbone, obviously is not ideal, I suppose the obvious option would be grind a wee bit off the calliper, is the issue on both sides? you could take a bit off the mounting spacers and thus move the callipers outboard a smidge, they don't need to be that central to the disc, or event rack stops behind the inner TREs, just a simple spacer on the rack so, on lock the back of the TRE hits the rack body earlier, put the spacers on the rack shaft, not on the threaded part as you will alter the toe. As Darkspeed says dump the vents, A possibility, as vents on the don't actually improve your braking, all they do is assist is dispersing heat, and help avoid Heat induced fade, another possibility for front hubs are the Mk4 Zephyr Zodiac, they certainly bolt onto a capri stub and give an English 5 stud fitting. MOT wise, there's never been anything about welded steering or suspension components not being allowed. Badly welded, modified, or excessively heated is a fail tho (It is also possible thats changed, as the powers that be keep changing the manual. And not for the best either)
