Tiger seal is a new one to me. It seems to be well respected though. I'm sure I can find some uses for it on my car! I've written up my meagre attempts at plastic welding. Follow the link if you're interested. Clicky here!James

Cheers James, good luck with the welded repair. I've tried similar before but always found the soldering iron overcooks the filler part while not really heating up the main part. anyway good & bad news today. good news is when sweeping up tonight I found that pesky clip Bad news is the gearbox kickdown linkage no longer fits the new carb - well it didn't, but it does now Also found out the carb is supplied without the kickdown cable connector? why not? So need to source one of those as well now.

I ended up sealing the air filter with Tiger seal, seems to have worked ok, but it will take a few days to set as I put it on quite thick. I got a box of goodies arrive from Summit today, some shiny bits and these parts, so engine final assembly can now happen. I made a prototype throttle cable and fuel line support bracket tonight, I'll make the final version at work tomorrow, so another job off the list. Found a good use for some of my stickers, breaks up the plain black cover ok, don't know how well they will stay stuck - might get some proper vinyl labels made up in the future to fit properly.

More engine porn, Mark!! The throttle cable bracket is a stroke of genius and really tidies up the area. I might use this approach for my nitrous solenoids. Top job mate.

Hi again Mark, Yeah, was a true inspiration actually seeing the quality of your work. It all looks so good in your photos, but in the metal it really is stunning. The level of detail that you have achieved is amazing and this is definitely gonna blow a few minds when you finally hit the street!!! Drool bucket at the ready for the debut and tissues ready for the Ace Cafe!!! Catch up again soon, Regards, Pete

^^^^very kind of you to say - thanks! The MKII throttle bracket was polished last night; And the final size alternator bushes have been turned up, just need to check it fits in the chassis ok and I can get the brackets cut in 6mm stainless (polished ) I changed the spring in the oil pump so it's now 10% uprated volume/pressure not the 25% as with the other spring. Sump is now all re-sealed and torqued down - another step nearer. Lastly, it might seem an odd order of things, but I fitted the mechanical gauges in the dash, this needs to be done as I need to drill the holes for the capillaries to run through the lower dash panel, I wont be able to do this once the engine is in. Some careful planning to route them before I can add the holes.

Getting near to completion !!!
After 23 years you must be getting anxious about driving this car.
Have you thought of changing the engine to a LS one?, more efficient, easily tuned with a laptop and you could drag the build out another 5 years
What will you do once it is completed.??
Have to sit in and watch soaps with the missus?
Cant wait to see it in the flesh.

When it's done I have the Pop trailer in the wings waiting Also will then move house so a huge new workshop build will keep me busy for a bit, not to mention all the work involved in getting new house sorted to how we want it. Then of course there will be the LS7 upgrade with mappable fuel injection & 6 speed box........... To be honest, if I were starting out again an LS engine would have been the engine of choice today.

Well more setbacks the new pushrods are a bit short - geometry is good but I am running out of thread on the rocker studs when adjusting, need to order/exchange for another set .050" longer, booo. distributor that was deemed OK many, many years ago is actually shagged so a billet one is also on the order list. Good news is Summit shipped yesterday, so 9 sleeps till more STUFF arrives

A sneak preview of how it will look soon I wanted to check all clearances for wiring, hoses, cables for gauges, dipstick tube for the trans and the alternator mounting, so I though I'd drop the motor back in without the gearbox fitted to see what room I have. With the carb & air filter fitted, Alternator has plenty of room, this is at its widest setting so I can order the brackets to be cut in stainless now. With the rad & hoses fitted, it's all a bit busy in there now! Make the most of it as it's all coming out again tomorrow

Hurray!!!! STUFF arrived today :woohoo: <<(smileys on here are so lame!!) Various small bits, but most important - my correct length pushrods. These are now fitted and valve lash all adjusted. New distributor is a fair bit smaller than the old one, this will give nicer clearance in the engine bay, leads fit far more neatly off it too. Unfortunately Summit screwed up on a couple of parts, so although they offered a refund I still have to re-order them & pay shipping again. Currently argueing with them for free shipping, will see what they say.

Not done much in the last couple of days - very busy at work & I am waiting for some 3M weathershield for bonding the inlet manifold rubbers in - should arrive Monday. Got an hour in today after doing jobs on the house, my stainless alternator brackets arrived this week from SHOP - whengparts great service & very reasonable price, so fitted them and they work perfectly. An hour later & they are now polished - debating on whether to polish the alternator too - did a little bit of it in the photo. With it all fitted on the engine, if anyone wants the same mounts let me know & I can send the Cad files for the parts.
