;D Hi all. Been surfing this site for ages and thought it was about time I did a thread of my own, so here goes..... This car was sat outside my office for ages and I offered 50 quid for it, not because I particularly needed it, but I hate to see cars like this just rotting away Needless to say the offer was turned down, but 6 months later the owner realised that he was never going to do anything with it, so 50 quid later Pete has another car! It then spent a few months like this, outside work, getting a few bits and pieces changed..... New fuel lines, (which was an interesting discovery when I fitted the battery..... ) discs, calipers, brake lines, SAD, driveshaft, well, quite a lot actually! Still, it was eventually MOT'd and came home I then used it to commute to work for a year or so, it never idled, until I clamped off the SAD pipe, then it ran high, but all good, only a 1.6, but still fun. Then it started to run pretty warm so I thought, new thermostat , until I checked the oil filler! Lots of mayonnaise So, now it's sat in my garage (Ford wheels fitted) waiting for me to get back from Afghanistan to sort it out Thoughts are...... refurb engine, sticking with the 1.6 Twin 40's 40mm lowering job polish and repair paint new or satin black bumpers and body kit with gloss black inserts, and eventually fibreglass bonnet and boot to lessen the weight a bit. Still not sure about the stripped out look, but it'll probably get tracked in which case thats a must but I'm open to ideas!

Too true, but already have a set of Dellortos in the garage. They need a refurb so I'll see what they're set up for and go from there. Loving your mkII by the way, I love Cortinas! Shame my wife doesn't!

Right managed to get a bit further, and spend even more money! (Pit anyone?) So first off I cleared a bit of space around it And then I started the strip down! There are a lot of rusty bolts there so the bumpers staying on for now! Bought this 1.9 engine off the bay So plans have already changed!! I'll be sticking with the injection for now, and see how it runs! And this is where I'm at now Mmmmmmm! Now I need to find a crane! Two week holiday in the sun first!

Right, time for a bit of an update. So after a bit of a monster spend down at Machine Mart (which doesn't take long!) I think I have all the bits i need to start the engine removal. This was all very new to me, having only ever done rear wheel drive stuff, and Ford at that which are a piece of p ;D ;Ds! First off I needed to put some wood down over the pit so I could move the crane! Then a quick check with the old haynes and start unbolting stuff! Connect the crane and allay up!! Or not!! Had to drop the engine back in and down so I could get the battery tray out! Now there's a good piece of design! I still can't see how the you're supposed to get at this when the engine is in!! Anyone?? Out she comes! One minging engine.... And one minging hole........ Did fail to disconnect a couple of water hoses at the back!!!! which might have had something to do with the difficulties getting it out, but you live and learn!! I'm now stood in the garage thinking I might have bitten off a bit more than I can chew!!! Oh well, onwards and upwards....... More to follow!

Looking good, as a 205 GTi owner i'm bound to say that. Prefer the original Pepperpot wheels though.

I actually really like the white wheels, what make / size are they? 205's do look sweet on the right 5 spoke!
Nice project!

I think they're Anteras? 7 1/2 by 16s with 195/45/16 Toyo Proxes on. They're a ford pattern with 20mm hubcentric spacers on. Look a bit shoddy at the mo, but will probably get a bit of a spruce up when i get round to them!

Right, another update.... Had a week off so while doing a few bits and pieces around the house I managed to sneak out into the garage and do some stuff, first off, new 1.9 engine with 1.6 flywheel clutch and gearbox fitted And half an hour later in it goes!!! Left the subframe off so I could drop the engine right down to make it easier to get the battery tray/engine mount back in..... Really good bit of design that!! I've managed to connect up most of the wiring, but there are an awful lot of plugs that still don't go anywhere!! We'll see if that's gonna cause problems, but it's the loom that came with the engine so...... This one's fitted with a shortened air filter etc, and I don't like them just hanging so 'hanging' And a quick bit of fabbing, solid!! I know it's not in Streets or Slaters league, but not bad for me! Meanwhile, I'd had a mare getting the old bushes out, but after a quick post on here.. retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1205779774&page=1I gave it a bash Nearly there... Done. ;D I'll put up some pics of the refurbished subframe when I get the chance!! Thanks for looking!

For that motor sport feel you cant beat white wheels... Keep up the good work... There is no better feeling that firing up a new engine for the first time! Even more so, when it came from ebay! Mad.

Time for another update! Since the last post, the engine is all in and wired up which was a nightmare Tried it with the 1.9 loom, but after having way too many connections I've gone back to the 1.6 loom and ECU. Not running yet, but in the process of getting a new coil to see if that sorts the problem. Anyway, got the suspension back on after chopping up the old strut, as the top nut was seized solid, broke and had to buy a bigger vice but eventually success after lots of grinding and gnashing of teeth! Back in, braided hoses fitted... Then the interior stripping started, dashboard first, I wanted to try and flock it myself so off came the vinyl, I bought the kit from Frosts, comes with glue, lots of flock stuff and an applicator, Paint on the glue and then puff on the flock... Looked ok but not brilliant. Lots of attempts later, but not overly happy. Did save myself quite a bit of money though and it looks better than it did before..... Sprayed the rest satin black, and refitted it. I've got rid of the bottom half, and glovebox and just have to fab a brace to stop it moving about as I did keep the ashtray, clock and ciggie lighter. Like the way it looks but does need tidying up underneath! More to follow......

So that's how the interior is at the moment, though I will be stripping it when I can find somewhere to put it all when it comes out! Always liked the look of the Rallye arches and finally won these on the Bay, So off the old wings came, mastic fantastic!! No chance of getting them off in good condition, but luckily no major rust issues, just a bit of flap wheel action, Kurust and hammerite, Have a few days off now so hoping to get a bit more done, but the van needs some work as well, and that's getting used a bit more
