Sorry Lopez, I can see what Pugzot is getting at, the lack of spacer plate is one indication, the lack of an oil cooler is the next.. then again having looked back at the photos, is that engine the one that came from an auto ? confused myself now.....
'A' series trigger wheels and sensor brackets, 205 GTi radiator brackets, general fabrication and machining - www.gsmotorsport.net
As I have said - the engine is a 1.9 from a 205 Gentry, not a GTI - it's the 105bhp 1.9 DFZ, they did not come with an oil cooler from the factory.
They do not have the sump spacer either!

- INJECTION XU9JA - INJECTION XU9JAZ
The Gentry engine is XU9J1/Z (DFZ) and does not have the extra plate. Compression ratio is different too - 9.6:1 for a normal XU9JA and 8.4:1 for an XU9J1 - meaning they are popular for turbo conversion.
Went to Loughborough to the DHL depot (spit) to collect my replacement clutch cable. For unknown reasons, they have sent me an air filter element for a Vauxhall VX 220 New cable will hopefully be here by midweek.
Also bought some replacement tips for my MIG, some brake fluid, and some vacuum hose.
Gearbox has been heaved back into place and bolted up (not a fun job)
The "Brown Multiplug of Doom" responsible for so many starting problems on 205 GTI's has been chopped out and replaced with lengths of new wire:
Radiator and fan box dropped into place - still need to paint the slam panel but I'll leave that for a bit as I have a few other bits in need of painting that can all be done at once.
I forgot just how much space gets robbed by that slam panel and rad!
Coming together nicely now :
I have also welded the bracket in for the hydraulic handbrake and bolted it in position, I've run the fuel lines throught the car - just waiting for some bigger P Clips to arrive this week so I can fix them down.
Still need to :
Plumb in the rear brakes and remove the old brake lines Remove the old fuel lines Fit clutch cable Repair bonnet hinges or fix bonnet down with 4 pins Bleed brakes Fit seats and harnesses Sort out exhaust Refit windscreen Fill up with water + check ignition timing Replace headlamp washer bottle Refit bumpers + arches
Can't apply top coat in this weather, it's utterly hammering down with rain and the wind is blowing inside the garage so I will leave it a bit longer.
In the meantime some bits have turned up:
Big chunk of vacuum hose - the seller sent the wrong colour by mistake and is kindly replacing it for me
FIA spec harness eyebolt and backplate. Got this fitted tonight.
Posh rubber lined P-clips - these will hold my fuel lines in place inside the car.
And this is the where the bonnet pins will go in my "4 pin" mounting system.
I really hope it stops raining soon because I need to do work inside the car and that means wheeling it outside with the doors open. Every time I try that at the moment the carpets etc are getting filthy and drenched.
Horrible grotty work tonight, on my back under the back axle.
Got the old solid brake lines off the back - lucky I decided to replace them as they would have definitely failed the MOT as they were very rusty.
To get to them was a right bind - had to drop the rear axle off it's mounting points.
That's when this happened:
It's supposed to look like this:
Luckily like a good boy scout I am prepared and had a pair of these:
Which fit here:
Should eliminate some of that sloppy rear end!
The other side will be done tomorrow. Also forced into buying a new flexi hose as the ends on mine won't turn freely so I cannot do them up without turning the hose into a Curly Wurly
Did the other rear beam solid mount today, and started on the brake line for the same side.
Rubber mounts = not nice:
Solid mounts = nice:
Flexi had a big chunk out of it on the driver side so I've binned it and will pick up a new one on Monday - might actually replace the pair while I'm at it.
Here is the "done" side:
The old lines and fittings were so corroded they crumbled as I undid them.
Ordered a new front bumper from Euro Car Parts because I've lost my new one I bought ages ago! I'll do a fibreglass repair on my cracked valance in the morning as well so it's all ready to fit back together.
Also need to nip out and grab a few hoseclips as I want to try filling the coolant system and it won't hold water without some new jubilee clips.
Also got the other driveshaft fitted... and the clutch cable is now in. Clutch feels lovely which is a relief!
Okay, bit more done. Car is on axle stands with the rear beam on the floor and can't go back together until I get a new flexi hose on Monday so I'm stuck really - can't get to most of my tools and can't move the car out to get to them!
So I got on with bits and bobs instead.
The paint on my Super Oscars was awful - full of chips, bits peeling etc.
So, a dousing of Nitromors and 10 minutes later we have this:
Ready to prime up and repaint.
Also routed the fuel lines using my new rubber-lined P Clips:
Might pop one more clip up by the bulkhead later to keep them right out of the footwell.
Note how tight space is - the lines need running right against the handbrake area or the seats and subframes will chafe the fuel lines.
Speaking of the handbrake, the brake lines are also in place for the front of the car now, run down the other side of the centre console and through the bias valve:
Excuse the mess in the footwell, that's my "nuts and bolts I'm currently using" corner
Those valves are almost half the price if you buy them from America!
