yes it is a 20v turbo

as for the rust theres is still more

there is more rot but now on to the best part cut out the rust and put in new metal

cut out the rear valance



made a new one but kept it flat so as to have less rust traps, it is hidded behind the bumper so wont be seen



but thats it for today more to come when i have done some

Cool car you mates got, pitty about the rust but hey your getting it sorted so who cares! Is it staying black?

20v turbo in a MK2 is a quality conversion, what power is it running?

some more grinding and welding, remember the front iner wing, well the hole got bigger so it was cut out and a big piece welded back in

remember the rust around the rear lights well rather than patch all the seams and risk more rust I decided to deseam the whole back end but got carred away sorry forgot to take pics of the new metal before puting on the filler





I have already started to lower the rear bumper and remove the tow hook cover



had enough of rust so onto somthing different, the bonnet mods, my mate wants the vents at the back of the bonnet smoothed and more air fed to the engine, however did not want vents in the wings but in the bonnet in the shape of a bonnet vent, made of metal and not a brought one from the shops so last week I made this



all the edges are rolled and underneath is splt down the middle one side is for the fresh air for the heater and the other side is for the engine piped underneath

first I cut out the vents in the bonnet and the supports the primer is zinc primer, I spray this on anything that will be boxed up



weled up the ends




and the ground down the welds




first a template



then steel




and weld it on



now I am out of gas for my mig welder and it was to late to get more, started to tidy up but soon got bored with that so I picked up the camera and took some pics of what I have around me

the yellow car is my maxi, 32000 miles all original with the paperwork, it is the 1750 model with a 4 speed auto, the only auto made in this colour inca yellow, it will be back on the road this year.

Like most people on here I don't normally 'get' bonnet vents.......unless they are functional and steel, like this one!!!!

Top skills there. And respect for saving a Mk2 Golf that most would just landfill if it was that rusty.

You have skilled hands mate, i'd be dead chuffed if i could do anything approaching that level of finish ;D
It looks twelvty-million times better than an of-the-shelf fibreglass sunny GTiR-esque bonnet

Hi all sorry for the delays in upates but been busy working on non retro stuff but the kid of stuff that pays bills

been reading your threads tonight took me a while but some nice motors out there,

and my Disco's back on the road there will be another thread on that one soon I forsee a sprayathon weekend coming ;D

anyway onto the updates

door handles have to go and be replaced with audi handles, quality of this stuff is not the best but oh well



so mark up and cut out the handle
