Some of you might remeber the thread in the General Section outlining our plans to build a FWD, sub 15sec Drag Car within a £100 budget Old ThreadMost of you didn't get it: 'Why not use the Civic' 'Why not use RWD' etc etc... Cause we don't want to, its not the point of this project to try and get the fastest thing ever down the strip, the point of it is, to Make a shonky old car, go as fast as it can for less than £100! Anyways, onto the project. We got our Donor Civic for free from a board member Collecting the car The engine thats gonna power it all, 1.6, roughly 130bhp (with all the curse word removed, cat, PS pump etc) First things first, we had to remove it Right, so what we need now is a shell to put it in. Its gotta be FWD, its gotta be something your gran might drive. Hollywood (another board member) came up trumps with this little gem, a 1991 Fiat Panda for a mere £20 Picked her up last night, its perfect, already stripped of most of its interior so less work, plus its got that 'barn find' look to it. Loading it onto the dolly About to leave Mid journey And finally, home in her new resting place So, the project has now properly begun, we shall be updating the progress here, including the money spent so far...

Before anyone asks, no, we're not taking fuel costs into account for collecting stuff! What will the neighbours think....?!

Do you not have any ramps for your dolly? Never seen one like that before.

It's home made! And yes, we do have some ramps for it, but the front suspension tie-rods are missing on the Panda which made it difficult to push/drag up it, so we basically opted to jack one side up, lift the other side in and job was done!
The dolly's capable of taking well over a ton, dragged a diesel Mongdeo to the scrap yard on it the other day!!

Yay! Hybrids, love it, if you can get the traction I reckon that'll be comfortably sub 15 second. Is the honda lump all alloy or just the head?

Err i think the majority of its alloy, its not heavy anyways. We lifted it into the back of a Range rover for storage nice and easy...

Their newer stuff is all alloy. Dunno if these older engines were.

I'll give it the trusty 'magnet test' when I get home tonight and report later with my findings! Seemed a whole lot lighter than the usual engines I lift with it... But then they are generally big old V8s! lol

I am sure all is fair in love and war !!
Would you be happy to recieve FREE of Charge any bits that you need to make the project proceed ?
I am sure that some of the members on the board who have access to, or jobs related to things like tie rods etc, would be happy to pass them along. Or am I just a deluded fool ?
I am sure most here would love to see this car rip up the rule books.
Oh, and good going thus far.

Free bits required for the project would always be gratefully received!
All we actually need that we can see thus far, is a pair of front upper tie-rod mounting brackets, a front RH panda caliper and hopefully that's about it. Maybe an external fuel pump, depending on how we work the fuel system (haven't actually checked to see what's in the civic yet!).
*Hopefully* Sunday should see the new engine resting in place....
Technically, we're £10 up on the whole thing, seeing as someone gave me £30 for a door and a wing, but in keeping with the spirit of the £100 thing, we're not counting any profit we make from selling bits/scrapping the shell!
Cheers, Martin

Oh, and we also need some 5.5 or 6 inch wide steel wheels to take some slick tyres for the front...!

Ooh, just been out and checked, it is an all alloy engine (well, except the sump which is steel). Splendid!
