Gorgeous car!! Love it, I've always liked twin headlamped avengers. Thankyou! To be honest I didn't really know much about Avengers until I saw this one on Ebay, then I did a lot of research (university + arts degree = lots of spare time) and decided that it was a pretty good car. Obviously I went to inspect it before I bid (bid, bidded, bade? What's the past participle of 'bid'?) I'm 18 and at uni, so I share your pain! Just finished my first year. As soon as my first loan payment went in last September I went straight out and bought an imp Cool. What university are you at? Nice car you got there, although my bad experiences with the MG have left me pretty disillusioned with 60s motors for the time being I managed to finance buying the Avenger with my bank overdraft... looks like both of our cars actually belong to the bank manager Who's your insurance with? Sounds pretty cheap bearing in my your only 19?? I phoned Lancaster and they put me through to Zenith Enthusiasts, it's £970-odd quid at 5% over 10 months, including breakdown cover, legal cover and personal injury. It's only TPFT though. And I can't drive other cars with 3rd party. And it's limited to 3,000 miles a year. But it's still £400 cheaper than the next cheapest quote I got. As for the engine.... Is it the same lump as a Sunbeam rapier? In which case you could fit it out to the Rapier H120 spec, which was 1725 standard bottom end IIRC, but with alloy Holbay head, and weber twin 40s? Nope, the Avenger got a new engine. I think when I finally get the cash to start tuning it, I'll go down the route of using later Talbot Sunbeam racing parts. I want to put a Rover V8 in there, but that could require a complete re-design of the front chassis rails, transmission tunnel, floorpan etc... I'll wait until someone does it first and steal their plans

unashamed bump concept pic for what I want to end up with. Yeah it's not very well done. Anyone here got serious paintshop skills that could help me out?

Ah cool cool, I'm at Leeds uni doing automotive engineering (apparently!!!). Yup, in september I managed to work out that by sticking to a budget I wouldn't need my overdraft.... so I er, spent it on the car and insurance!! I'm with Footman James at the moment (18, male no NCB) which is £427 TPFT, because they do a special Rootes policy, maybe you can check that out for next time?
Unfortunately my car doesn't look much like that.... the avatar is the rather optimistic photoshop!! And the base photo for it was taken prior to an "inversion" incident!
ANYWAY! Liking the photoshop. Looking good. Although personally I would lose the cream/white and I can't STAND Rostyles, no naturally, they would have to be something else!! Keep us updated! Will it be at the RR show?

Automotive engineering, I wanted to do that, but I was never any good at maths but rather good at arguing, so I did history instead. I don't like the rostyles much either. I spent a while scouring some websites today and didn't find much that I liked, they were all too boy-racery and had little poncy skinny curvy spokes. What I want is some Detroit iron on there! I found this nice picture of an Avenger concept which, I think, has really nice wheels www.allpar.com/model/avengertiger.htmlI like the little red stiping on the wheels too. I'll try to incorporate that. I'd get one of those tyre lettering pens too, but unless I buy Goodyear or Pirelli or a decent make, it would just highlight the fact that I'm a bit of a cheapskate. I'm not so sure about the white stripe myself either. I like it, but because I'll probably be doing the paintwork before I do any serious tuning, I'll have a 300bhp paintjob with an 85bhp engine... At the risk of sounding like a complete RR novice, when and where is the show? I'll try to make it if I can

www.retro-rides-show.com/ Or head over to the discussion board (above the general board ) Avengers should be Ford PCD, 4*108, so there'll be loads of wheels out there, plenty of RWD Ford wheels Nice set of superlites would look good I reckon like these maybe?

Nah I don't think I'll make it to the RR show. I've got curse word all money and I'm currently working 7 days a week so I have no free time either.
I was looking at Superlites but I'm not sure that I like those rounded ones, I'm looking for more American style wheels. Some of the wheels on the superlite website are quite nice (but very expensive new and a bit rare used)

Reminds me.
Not sure if it has been re-discovered already or not & re-distrubuted amongst those who would care... But a few years ago I found a 1970 issue of a British magazine called AutomotiveEngineer in a local Uni Library (RMIT) which also had developmental drawings & specs for the Avenger including body-in-white photos & technical drawings. Another issue (or was it the same one?) had similar info on the Mk3 Cortina I immediately photocopied.
Might be worth looking for ?

Looks sweet fella.
Bad experience with MG, thats the experience lol.
I bought my BGT with my student load too, ok it was only a £250 pound car at the time and that was overpriced for what it was LOL.
I do have a soft spot for these, but I think it will have to go on the "one day" Pile.
Keep us posted.

I need to learn how to use that TIG welder sitting in my wardrobe It'd be safer to learn to use it standing in your garage! Might set light to your clothes otherwise! ;D
