Not sure if this is classed as 'retro' yet,but maybe in the near future. this is my mk2 astra, started life as a 5door 1,3 swing.since then it's undergone a few changes. The engine is a c20xe(redtop)with courtney cams, vernier pulleys,4layer steel headgasket, arp rod bolts, alloy bottom pulley, and soon to have motorbike carb's.f20 gearbox with equal lengh drive shaft's. the front end has been seem welded, all brake and fuel lines have been run inside the car, battery relocated in the boot, fully pollybushed suspension, lowered 60mm on aftermarket shocks and springs, front and rear strutt brace, cobra monaco bucket seat's with luke 4 point harnesses, and soon to have a safety device's roll cage.

Never really liked the mk2 shape when it was first around , preferred the boxier mk1 but again as time marches on and you see less and less of these...... nice car ! and nice to see a 5 door getting some treatment too

I will be reverting the outside back to pretty much standard when ive finished the engine work, when i bought it,it had most of the bits on it already and its got a smooth boot which I'm not that keen on,just want to leave it looking as sleeperish as i can.

Yeah these are definately retro IMO, when I was down the scapyard the other day I was instantly drawn to a mk2 Astra Antebes and it occured to me that I haven't seen a mk2 Astra in quite a while! Yours looks great, lots of quality items in your engine build, must be a rocket ship on the road! Mk2 Astras were the weapon of choice of my mates back in the day, nice cars

I love em mate, this is my 5th one now,and by far the cleanest, before i took it of the road it was running twin 40 dehlorto carbs with the redtop and it was definitely a lively little curse word, even though the carbs were of noah's ark!when i got them tuned the guy asked me if i'd dug the carbs up from my back garden!

Just got pointed to this thread, and must say I'm surprised I missed it. The car rocks the fat one! Very nice and the spec sounds pretty tasty as well.

Yes, stock, poverty model exterior FTW The exterior is even more poverty spec now,as the car had a fight with a spec lift when off loading it and ripped the front bumper clean of.

I love MK2 Astras, only reason I got a Golf was because I couldn't find an Astra. I too have many happy memories of hooning round in MK2s back in the day, my mate had a 1300 with a 1400 head that'd been skimmed to within an inch of it's life, compression ratio was so high it used to eat camshafts ;D

a bit more done to the ashtray, I've swapped the headlamps back to standard, And I'm swapping the smooth boot (which i hate) with a standard one next week. I'm trying to get the outside (except the compo's) Back to looking like a povo speck astra. I much prefer the standard lights anyway, those twin headlamps are curse word for hooning round the back lanes. Fitted the 16v linkage, and the bars are all welded in to mount the seats to, all painted up inside now and looking shinny. ;D And while i was fitting the braided brake lines on the rear, I spotted a bit of rust around the o/s rear spring cup, so i did the only thing i could, and kept bashing it with a hammer, till i ended up with this. It's all gravy though as I'm a welder, and a new spring cup only cost me £10. And it gave me chance to drop the rear axle and fit the pollybushes, and clean it up a bit. Not a lot left to do know, just some niggely bits.

UPDATES - Been a while since I posted any recent updates so hear goes. Done a bit more lightening to the shell. The interior is pretty much done now, all the brake pipes are run inside as are the fuel lines, just need to make something to raise the 16v gearlinkage up a bit. Refurbished the wheels as they were in a sorry state, and got some vectra v6 front brakes which fill the 15"s nicely. Wheels before refurb... And after.... I'm very happy with how they turned out, and it only cost me £4.99! I only paid for the new stickers. ;D The engine is all back together now, with arp bolts, just waiting for the bike carb manifold and it should be running. ;D Excuse the state of the oil cooler piping, It will all be replaced (eventually). I also got rid of the ghey schmooooved boot lid and clear rear lights. Before... After... Looking forward to actually finishing it soon, although it will probably drag on as i keep improving bits.
