Little update: Uh... it works Haha. Took it to get set up at the Bogg Brothers up in Yorkshire yesturday. Made just over 140bhp at the rear wheels at 5500. Didn't drop off at all but he didn't rev it any higher, so there's possibly a few left to go - but I'm not fussed about numbers. Took it for a little drive down the road afterwards and it's frikkin' lunacy haha. Right little weapon. As you can see, it's about 90% there. Little bit of paint to be applied, and some tidying up of wires - and she'll be grand! Just need to sort out the lighting a little bit and get a rear numberplate light that doesnt look gash, and MOT it hopefully next weekend! Well chuffed

Awesome. How much did that bike carb manifold cost?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Cheers lads. I got the car with the engine plus the carbs and manifold - so I'm not sure how much that lot cost. It's using a Manta B axle with a fresh LSD. I'm yet to see how well it fairs with the drifting, but it lit up both wheels nicely in a straight line and has a nice clunky feel to it when parking. I'm gonna take it to a drift day asap and find out what the diff etc is really like. As far as paint goes, I'm just gonna paint the front arches and bootlid myself for now and leave it as it is. The paint isn't mint - but for a 1978 car, it's damn good! And I intend to use it fairly hard so I wouldn't wanna worry about getting wee chips in there anyway. Cheers for the compliments Hopefully I'll get some videos of it in action soon!

I never had the engine going without the bike carbs, but it seems REALLY responsive but still nicely meaty low down. I know that's the main characteristics of the XE engine, but I think they'd exagerate it nicely - too many long words there. I'd deffinately reccomend the Bogg Bros. The manifold is top quality and their service is great. It's a small family thing with lots of rally background, and it's one of those rare businesses that actually care about what they do! Cost me £70 for a rolling road carb/ignition tune up - can't say fairer than that really!

Looking good Topi - great stuff Have you done a bit of arch/spring fettling cos it looks like the gap between the rear wheels and arch is smaller than i remember ? And where did you eventually get your cage from ? i remember pm'ing you about the one on german ebay.. The mirrors look better in black than they ever did in blue mind If you ever fancy a pair of black door handles ( might go a bit better with the black mirrors and bonnet ? ) i've got a pair you can have , just let me know..

The front arches have been flared out with a roller, and I did the same to the back ones but finished them off with fibreglass, so I extended them out slightly. Came out alright I think, nice and subtle The cage is from a rally guy near wales. I put an advert up on rallyusedspares.com expecting no reply, and about a month later I got an email from a guy selling all his Chevette parts. Got the cage sandblasted and powder coated for £50 and it looks pretty trick I might take you up on the black door handles some time too, hmmm.

Brilliant stuff dude, and Id say that theres plenty more powaaaahs to come if they only revved it to 5500rpm, that bottom end should be good for 7500! (ARP rod bolts recommended LOL)
Glad you got it sorted. Cant wait to see this in the flesh.
