Had a bit of a blitz today. The 'screen came out because the rubber was minging, but I've found a bunch mo' work to do. Which, when I first got the windscreen out, looked a bit like this. This is the side I'm yet to tackle, pic for illustration purposes only.: Ground it back a bit, being careful not to slice into the gutter: Found it was filthy, so cut out yet more snot: Couldn't be ars ed welding so took the knackered old carb off: Old cannons off. Free if you want them. While I was there, I noticed my water pump was seized. So that got binned. And realised that most of my engine bay's going to be somewhat shown up by spanglecarb. So decided to take the rocker cover off to give it a tarting: Bit of cleaning before paint: Then I realised I only had heat resistant paint in silver flavour. Which would look poo against the chrome. So turned my hand the visor. Well, I was gonna, but I decided to go home and play around with my bike. Here's how I left it:

How high? Umm, about 5in tall, 10in wide.
One of the trumpets is a bit battered.

Right, decided to go all-out on the humber's engine bay. Pace are pricing up one of these for me as we speak. I need to know how much extra work I'm going to need to do over winter to afford it!! But it will be mine, oh yes.

Decided on satin black valve cover. I applied Hammerite and jeesh, that stuff is really horrilbe to work with. This is it, pre sanding.

OK, today was a bit of a disaster... Basically, I set the Humber on fire in a need-a-fire-extinguisher-to-put-it-out kind of way. Ooops. Luckily, the damage sustained wasn't particularly substantial and the paint survived relatively intact. This is why I should NEVER weld!! Paint looking OK considering it had three-foot flames licking it earlier in the day: Festive: To increase the danger levels, this decided to wee out fuel at an alarming rate: In other news, the rocker cover looks nice in satin:

At least you didn't set fire to your hair this time eh? Bad luck but as you say, could have been worse. Have a hatful of motivation points! Share them amongst anyone else who is actually capable of getting off their backside and working on their motors in the cold. That won't be me then!

When are you next up at the Emap (soon-to-be Bauer) library? Gawd knows. I tend to have a habit of just suddenly dropping over and heading there if I get stuck on something. I've got some books on Bristols (the cars...) to return at some point so maybe next week.
