A local banger racer once nicked my bosses mk10 jag to banger race. As my boss was the owner of a big breakers yard he soon found out who had nicked it. We went round with 2 wagons, hoiked the jag on one, the traveller curse word vectra on the other, then stuck the hiab through the roof of all the other cars there and straight through his living room window.

There's no argument to be had here. I know about cars...I own a Cressida and my dad had Granadas as company cars because he's work for Ford since he was 15. In the opening shots of this thread the car is not obviously a Cressida. If I didn't recognise it immediately then I'm confident that most would have the same problem...hence my question.
Clearly there's design and size differences, but there's no denying that once the front end is 'banger-ised' then a lot of the major differences are lost.

I totaly understand if you get slapped up fence and hit a parked car it could look like anything.

No photos i'm afraid this was 4 years ago now. Basically I was working at a recovery garage, my boss has loads of classic cars he's always buying and restoring them. Theres him, his 2 sons and a couple of other lads that work for him. Him and his sons are built like brick curse word houses, but one of the guys that worked for him was honestly the biggest built bloke without ever going near a gym i've ever seen. He is somewhere around 6'6" tall and about 3 times wider than me. He was also a debt collector lol, and could pick a twin cam pinto up to head height on his own.
Anyway the Jag was parked outside the yard. It was very solid but had been in a barn for years. It disappeared overnight. We looked on the cctv, printed a couple of pics off and showed it to a couple of dodgy bastards we knew which soon gave us a name and address.
We jumped in the trucks at 5am and drove to the guys house. Was a traveller estate but the guys house had a huge front garden with maybe 8 or 9 cars in, including a mk4 escort cabby, mk3 golf gti on rampsetc.
We reversed the wagon up to the Jag and winched it on. The bloke came out, and quickly ran back inside when he saw everybody. We then winched the Vectra onto the other truck which was the only car with t&t.
The hiab bit was the most fun. When we were hauling wrecked cars about we always put the hiab arm through the roof anyway so we knew it would go through. We just swung it across the line of cars, dropping it into the roof and pressing a bit on each one. The extended it and put it straight through the window.

Only ever been to Hednesford/Birmingham Wheels, plus v8devon and myself went to the last-ever Aldershot meeting back in 1992 (the night of the fire at Windsor Castle, we saw it!), and years ago I went to see BRISCA F1's at Belle Vue and Crewe (now that gives you a clue as to how ancient I am )

Got the Jag back plus a free Vectra and an evening`s entertainment, sounds alright.
The question remains unanswered, though, whats the point of racing an unusual car if no-one can tell that its an unusual car by the time it hits the track?

If some one doesnt know what a car is, look at the badges on the boot or go ask the driver in the pits!, Banger racing is not bout the looks its bout the strength, some people don't understand because theyve never 'sin that car in that condtion..

not exactly talking creative types here are we! paint job is like representing what team your in, if your in some newbie team you will be a target but if your in a high respected hard hitting drivers team you wont be targeted as like the young newbie out there. That explains that then I'm going to cause controversy here by possing another question? Is liking Banger racing any different from liking car chases in films? Discuss

Depends. If youre watching the Bullit car chase then youre watching brand new cars being wrecked, infinitely replaceable. Same goes for The Sweeney and the Original Gone in 60 seconds etc.
To be honest if I see a US muscle car gettting involved in a chase in a modern film I cringe, I know it`ll end up on its back, on fire, and it`ll turn out they had to use 20 Chargers or whatever to get the right shot. Look at the 1st 2 Fast and Furious films - in both cases the old Muscle cars took the brunt of the destruction while the expendable moderns survived. Its the same thinking as the classic banger racers, destroying something old and cool for the Kudos.

I like any racing films like fast and furious and gone in 60 seconds.
