I put the sparadic clutch slip the Tiki mobile suffered last year down to lack of use, ultimately I new it would need a new one at some point.the lack of power delivery has been getting steadily worse so,over the weekend I've had a new one fitted. this is what came off...... you could say its a bit worn.... no wonder it was slow to pick up!

That's not worn Bryan, this is a new one: and this is the one I pulled out of LNK before the 930 and new clutch went in.

:(I'm not a happy shopper this evening.I thought I'd go and frighten the natives,as you do,you know the new clutch needed a proper test away.I did'nt even make it off the driveway,it would appear that it liked having a dodgey clutch because when I powered up it blew the head gasket!!!! not sure wether to fix it or replace the mkI lump with a newer mkII.either way the car remains in dry dock and I'm considering a power-sulk.

;Dthanks to a very good friend,a few incantations and a gasket set the TIKI MOBILE now fires on all 4 pots and pulls in all 4 gears again! hopefully over the week I'll have some time to sort out the rust and do some restyling for this years Wheels day.I have'nt had the time for a radical makeover this year but,I have some ideas..... I found this in an old file the other day,its been restyled so many times that I'd almost forgotten it looked like this.

Hows the tiki machine going? Its been a while. I've not had alot of time to spend on the Tiki-mobile recently with all the other stuff I've had going on,its off the road because I landed on a speed bump rather hard and the exhaust is blowing.it lives 12 miles away at my mother's so I have'nt been able to look at it yet,I may have broken the custom manifold it certainly sounds like it . I had another little niggle about Easter time which turned out not to be as bad as it sounded at first. this does'nt look like much but,its the throttle return spring.I was at work and needed to shoot into town, when I jumped in and fired it up the spring snapped, the throttle fell open and the noise made me think it was about to explode! After liftng the engine lid I saw what the problem was and fashioned a quick repair from a plate hanger spring in my studio and some sculpting wire. it was'nt long before I was back on the road and it worked a treat,I got a secondhand replacement from Malcolm Anderson for the cost of some stamps so its all good again.I kept the bodge repair as a spare just incase. I took this the other day,the 'Tiki-mobile and the Tiki-cycle' my son and I have been working on.with the exception of the exhaust issue its running really well,I've got some more Mods in the making when I get the time but for now its in dry dock.

very cool . . could use a slightly smaller exhaust pipe though ;D It's worked a treat and made a wonderfully grunty and low sound for 5 years or more until I landed on a speed bump! modifcations will be made during the rebuild, part of me says CHERRY BOMB but,I'm on the look out for something more sensible ;D

Well,I've sorted the manifold by having it rebuilt and I picked up a Peco exhaust from the local recyclers for £10,it was just about the only straight bit left on the Saxo it had been on.with any luck I'll be off to the Imp national in Reading next weekend. here's some other things I've been playing with; I've been working on a sunvisor design to be made from alli or steel,I've got to the final template stage so far. I've also been musing over how to transport my longboard,at 5'9 its not easy to stow in an Imp.it fits snuggly down the side of the passenger seat but,it means to get in or out you need to squeeze over it or climb across from the driver's side.I don't want a full on roof rack so I've been looking out for other ways of fixing it on.looking at surfboard/ski racks lead me to looking at boats and then large 'cleats' which seem to lend themselves to the job with ease. with a few mods they may just work..... Moon tank mounts would be nice but, they are far from cheap!

Hiya Baz,hopefully I'll be there on the sunday,I'm annoyed that I missed Uxbridge ,it was on the cards but after the recent rebuild I've discovered its only running on 3 cylinders again and did'nt want to run it until it was sorted.I'm back in the rebuild or replacement quandry again... it has a spark but no compression on no.4,I'm guessing valves or rings this time.I'm going to pull it out of dry dock tonight and run it this week to see if Reading on 3 cylinders will be a do or die.hope to see you there,Bryan

It'll be fine on three - mine ran on three for a couple of months and maybe 300 miles.
