To celebrate 60 years since the first H Van rolled off the production lines, we bought one yesterday! Cruised home at 50-55mph, embarrasing stuff uphill as it doesn't slow down! More later.

that's cool as! i remember seeing one of deals on wheels (with mike brewer) a few years back and i've always liked them since.
are you going to do anything with it, or leave it as it is?

Leave as is pretty much. Does everything we want.
Needless to say, both Van and Mini were struggling in all of that rain yesterday!

does your mini have electronic ignition? mine copes pretty well in rain since i had it fitted...that's without the splash guard aswell.
is it true those vans can easily carry twice their own weight or something?

Mini doesn't have electronic ignition. Maybe worth an upgrade. It did 350 miles yesterday despite the troubles!
Not sure what they can carry but they could pull the side of a house down with the torque!

another vote for electronic igntion. The only Mini we had that didn;t cause grief in the rain was one with the electronic ignition...

Thanks guys. 2CV runs electronic ignition (it's one hi-tech feature!) and I am amazed by the improvement.

H-van looks FAB! More 'vital statistics' please!
|
|

|

How is that ;D

Er, vital stats. Engine is a two litre petrol which can trace its roots back to the Traction Avant. About 60bhp. Gearbox is a three speeder with a reverse gear pattern (first is to the right and back, forward and left into second and third straight back from there). The French did shed-loads with them. This one is ex Fire Service! Not a high speed response vehicle...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'll get some more pics as soon as I can - not easy as I'm very busy and the van is in the dark by the time I get home. Got back last night - "bloomin heck, it wasn't a dream! We really did buy it!"
