See you June 6th. ;D ;D ;D Let's hope that I don't have some sort of curse where I blow the engine up every time I go to Combe Still thinking of doing the hillclimb school as well,.. but I need to get some more power out of my car first

Gurston is a good day out and because of the exploding engine syndrome I had to do it in my works Beemer last year and I found out that when it says you have switched off the ESP, the ASR, the EBD and every other three letter acronym to stop you spinning or lifting a wheel, IT LIES. Don't worry about power because it's mainly about using what you've got properly rather than having lots. (That sounds vaguely like me explaining my deficiencies to my girlfriend or something ) The next school is 12th May and if the Healey is fettled I shall be there trying to keep it on the track. What I'd really like to do is do a drift school first and then drift the hill because it would really pee off the traditionalists. No doubt I'd get NUL POINTS for style as usual ;D

Trouble is that the 'Smart' pads ain't too smart after you do this I nearly hit a milk tanker mid-corner on the next bend. Note to self do not go through fords laughing your head off and giving the bloke in the lurid jammies a steam and hydrocarbon bath as you blip the throttle to clear the H2O out of the side pipes ;D ;D ;D

Great to see this in the flesh at RRG09. What an amazing Healey! Just found the thread now and had a VERY quick skim through. I'm bookmarking so I can follow through in the manner it deserves! Great to meet you and seeing you go round the sprint too many times and still post respectable times was a highlight of RRG09 for me. Do you know the guy at Top Garage in Bromyard??

Nice to see up close, and in action. Looks a handfull, although, the exhaust note would suggest the lump wasn't very stressed even as quick as you were going. To be fair, I was amazed at how much grip it had, I was expecting a smokey, slithery sprint

One of the decisions I made when the 383 was built was to move the torque curve up the rpm scale. I wanted to keep the car reasonably (bonnet scoop excepted) standard looking and that meant no rear tyres over 7". The old 350 was a real low rev torque monster so the 383 had to be a little more tractable (as below). It didn't work ;D. Reasonably grippy tyres with tramp bars and a LSD help. Full chat 5400 rpm shifts are a different matter.

No problemo!
I was off to see the Chief Scrute of the Woolbridge Motor Club that meet there to see if they'll let me do the Wiscombe hillclimb next year.
A few small safety modifications and the man from Woolbridge he will say yes! ;D

Class thread! There was some note off it round the track at rrg. Lovely looking car, didn't get a look round it though, wish I'd seen this thread before RR.

I know the pain you've had to deal with when things keep breaking and leaking all the time.
I was expecting to go to Castle Combe 5th September but can't get the car running.
Had to deal with heat problems as I've also got a transplant, non-standard engine. Does not fit in the engine bay either. In my case the previous owner (who fitted the non-standard engine) used a hammer to modify the bulkhead. I suppose that did the job.
Can't tell if you've put on the Megasquirt or not yet? That will be a nightmare... My car isn't running and won't be ready in time for Coombe due to deciding to get going with a new ECU. At the moment I'm a little disheartened and need to be reading threads like this to inspire me to get back to it. Basically, a sensor or equipment problem is preventing it from starting or running and problems like this drive me crazy. The first work I will need to do when I get back on the project will be to diagnose this fault. That's not something I'm particularly looking forward to.

Just don't give up Leave it for a time but always go back. I've finally partially cured the cooling until a teardown this winter and I've just re-done the ignition system as the HEI and Megafire let me down in the wet. Now on coil and Mallory dual-point it still eats condensers BUT track at RRG09 this year made it all worthwhile. Megasquirt goes in this winter and a cooling system run solely on polyprolylene glycol ;D

No. Does he have anorher V8? He didn't but he hillclimbed a Healey 3000, and his workshop was often full of them, and Mini Coopers, Anglias etc. All lovely stuff. He was good at the old hillclimb game and was regularly competing at Shelsey Walsh which is nearby. A few years ago mind you and kinda irrelevant here I guess, thought it worth mentioning all the same!

Nothing to do with retro cars is irrelevant here ;D
Your CX really got me thinking at RRG09 (purists turn away now!) as I'm looking for a classic car hauler. I can't reverse a trailer for sh1t and the looks you get in the paddock when you turn a trailer by hand are unbelievable. Trailer reversing dyslexia should be a recognised minor disability like hayfever ;D
Anyhow with the length of a CX estate I could just about turn it into a futuristic Healey carrying pickup with the old hydropneumatics helping loading. I reckon it could be cut down the middle with a longer pickup bed added? What do you think?
