Hotter engine = more efficient = more power...
I believe the consensus is that running Evans you will generally have a higher running temperature anyway?

Number plate looks fine.....it's the number/letter spacing making it look odd. At least you are still doing car stuff Ian!

The Evans doing it's job last weekend i.e. no boiling and no pressure in the cooling system. I've really go to sort the marginal cooling Baby Blue got registered and is off to Lackfords tomorrow for a little fettling. I spent a good two hours with masking tape and levels trying to get the numberplates centred and level. Still looks out to me Ho - so you do have some cars then - I thought you just had some sheep and a dog plus a rusty tractor and a big red thing on wheels

the harsh reality is that the thing doing the work is the convector in the nose of the car, and surface area is king.
in terms of airflow you have high pressure saturation point at the nose of the car, low pressure under the cabin, air prefers to take that path. i know its "a thing" that lots of people do (ref: hitching the trailing edge of the bonnet) but the base of the windscreen is also a high pressure point, not sure air will prefer to take that route and give you any edge in cooling
an electric water pump could be a thing to try, since its dialled in to give optimum flow 100% of the time and not dependant on engine revs.

Might try a splitter under the front plus a super vented bonnet. It always runs cooler with the bonnet off. I think if we rethink the front and put some holes in the valance then I can get a taller and wider radiator in maybe an extra 50% capacity and cooling area.

There's some remarkably good weather about and with a little pause in the hectic pace of life after haymaking and the M.I.L. going in for respite it was time for some foolin' around. The fleet is up to full strength with the Raid Dolly fully recuperated from a pistonectomy. What to choose? 2CV's? : nope Lenham? : nope Apocalyse Defender : nope Lil' Grey Fergie : while a hoot on the road there's too many Lycra Loons about, so nope. Just leaves the big boy then. Decanted it from the carbonite down the Volcano Lair, a little light fettling and we're back on the road again. YAY!

Not seen this thread before. Absolutely epic! Hat off to you for sticking with it at the beginning (no choice really I suppose) with the usual shonky American build quality.

Tonight I'd like to talk about Automotive Infidelity in temporarily replacing my Anglo/American baby with a highly strung French filly. I know it's the Summer of Grunt but the old joke goes Q : "How do you tell a V8 Healey driver?" A : "When they get out of the car you can see their shoes smouldering" This exceptional weather only makes it worse so I got the Raid Dolly out of the Lair. Poor thing had a recent pistonectomy so needed a few miles put on her before selling and I needed the full length sunroof. This one's not "Smiles per Mile", more like "Most fun possible with your trousers on"

The Summer of Grunt in like a lion and out like a lamb. not with a bang but just a whimper. As the closing event we had an entry for the October 2022 Malta Classic, being run for the first time since 2019. I didn't do 2019 because I was on the RR stand at the NEC Classic with the Goddess that year. Covid cancelled Malta 2020 & 2021 so excitement was running high, meeting up with old friends, Cisk beer drinking etc. etc. plus a hillclimb, the Mdina Concours and a whole weekend of road racing for the Mdina Grand Prix. Pitstop reckoned she wouldn't get into her racesuit so it was not the 2CVs and with the Lenham up for sale it had to be the big boy after its summer of fun. Usual Malta organisation, everything was a bit late and then three local councils got the hump and didn't want the event on 'their' roads. Local politics in Malta is byzantine and the most surprising thing was that three councils were actually cooperating. I surmise many meetings were held and it was all on again. Discretion being the better part of keeping your savings intact we decided that it wasn't as certain as was being said so decided we'd wait another year. That was two weeks ago and today I was told it was cancelled again. So instead of doing this the Summer of Grunt was over and as the gloom settled I got an email which told me #drumroll# the Bahamas Speed Week Revival is back for 2023, that I'm invited and free membership of the Bahamas Motor Sports Association, the world’s smallest FIA affiliated ASN. So hopefully in December 2023 we'll be doing this Sorry about the Fotofucket watermark. I hate the gouging onanists
