Hi all, this is my 1st post since joining so be gentle eh! I have recently bought this car from a friend who has decided he has no time to do the work it needs. For those of you who don't know the XR6 was only availiable in South Africa, it has 5 linked rear suspension for the rigours of the African roads. The best bit though is this is the only Cortina ever built by Ford with the 3.0 litre Essex engine as standard! My particular example is a TF ( team Ford) edition, 1 of only 500 produced and one of only 2 in the uk...the other is a real minter! Enough waffle....the pics... And one of the other TF in the uk....I can only dream mine will look as good as this one day....

Thanks for the welcome mate. This one is staying standard, I've just sold a 2.8 5 speed mk5 that I'd modifed into a sleeper but this car is so rare in the UK I can't bring myself to mod it.....it'll still be quick enouch with a 3.0 litre V6 and lsd as standard though!

cool car the stripe looks a little bit like a mk2 escort harrier ??

Yes I suppose the stripe is very close to the harrier. It says XR6 on both front wings and on the back. The only XR specific part I'm missing is a rear bumper....but I have a contact scouring SA for one.

ooh yummy, i like the black trim on them as well, just got back into the V6 cortina fold myself, have had a few 2.8 ones, last one i owned was a blue one with an injection engine and 5 speed in it, side exit exhausts and 15"steels. would love an aussie one, they did a straight 6 version with a 4.2 in it i think it was.

Aussie one was 4.1....next on the list! I know of one in Scotland...sadly not for sale....but I'm working on it! As for what needs doing on the car.....well truth be told not a lot. It needs a small amount of welding round the front scuttle panel then a full respray.... Its running but the clutch is siezed and the oil warning lamp comes on when warm.... I have got another Essex lined up so thats going in with a new clutch. I need to find someonme to make up the stripes for after the respray, so any help off you north-east guys in that direction would be appreciated. A rear bumper is also on the shopping list but unfortunately they are only avaliable in South Africa...and rare there! This is how they differ from uk cars....we have a chrome bumper with a black plastic strip and seperate black end cap.....I need a one piece with a black trim ....like this....

Cops used to drive a lot of these XR6's. My dad had one as an official car at work as well. However, he traded it for a GLi6 Cressida with one of his colleagues. He never cared about performance in cars much...... Bikes on the other hand, he would wring the neck off.
