for a 1.2 it is fairly rapid. needs gtt engine transplant Volvo 1.7 turbo is what you really need 400 series turbo lumps fit straight into the clio with the correcty mounts, the engines are easily tunable can come with 120bhp as standard. Check out the forum on www.volvo-480-europe.org theres a guy call dave who has done the job looks awesome!

tell me about it.... £65 for the car the delivery from the depot cost the same. they're was damage to the rear quarter and tail gate but it doesnt show on the picture when you start adding it up it wasnt that cheap. nearly 40 for a VOSA 40 MOT, new(to me) bonnet&headlamp 45, tailgate/taillight 35 wheels and tyres 40 then painting(5 FINGER DISCOUNT thanks dad) bout 600 bike can exhaust and the loan of a pipe bender(about 20 pints of special brew)50 i work that out to be £250 (900 if i wasnt my fathers son :0) ) which is still cheap and will still sell for a profit

There seems to be a bit of confusion between a 'potentially' retro car, and a model thats just getting a bit old?
There's a big difference.
Nothing wrong with Clios at all, but retro status? Maybe the Williams, but nothing else from the range, IMHO!

For £250 & a bit of work, you got a bargain for sure! don't know what it'd be worth over there now, but over here you'd be able to punt it on as it stands for at least £3-4k Definately not sure about it's retro status (now or future), but as a daily drive, or even just something to punt on & make some cash it's a winner!

a early mk1 clio has all the makings of a retro ride, ugly, hated, over looked by the motoring comunity. slammed on wide 13's and everyone would change their mind

Bodyshop in Birmingham eh? Where abouts? I'll need some work doing to my Volvo in the nearish future - and I'm NOT taking it back to the place who did the last work Would be a smart clio without the bonnet, the styling kinda lost it after the mk1/mk1 facelift and went a bit soft. Retro? Not yet imo, but give it time...

actually kinda like that clio, except the bonnet. replace with standard in satin black, a bit more stick bashing and it will be retro in another few years. for now theres too many around. not everything will become retro but these are sufficiently non over-electronically-controlled so will just scrape in!

The Clio range isnt retro yet IMO, but an individual one could be made to be. Always quite liked Clios though other than the soft suspension and limited space under the bonnet fo rworking on diseasels. I briefly owned an R reg 1.4 the same shape as that. It also came from a salvage yard and cost £65, must be a common thing. It needed a drivers side door window and a had a few dents which all pulled out without damaging the paint. Bought it used it for one autotest where I spent most of teh time on two wheels . Spent £35 on an MOT and glass then sold it for just over £400 on ebay ;D
