I like it,
Reminds me old my old 79 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal. Big clunky, plush and bargelike but with that nice 301 and a 2bbl under the hood it went quite well and yanks of this age arent as bad on bends as people always told me, you just gotta be brave :-)
The interior on the new yorker is way cooler than my olds was though.

I think this is teh wurZt kAr I have ever seen! Restecp! And you will have seen some crud in your time! So that it an acolade I will always treasure. Its crappness is magnified to the power of ten million at the moment as it lasted one day before dying an embarrasing death on my driveway and is resisting all reasonable attempts to ressucitate it. Stinkwheel - you've not driven a stock M-body then? Makes my '66 Buick LeSabre look like a Mitzi Evo!

They wanted the smaller sized M body New Yorker / Fifth Avenue to ride like a full sized C Body had done. The only way to do that was mount very single suspension component in rubber to ensure no vibration can pass from the roadwheels or suspension up to the car. Even when new these result in a special kind of vagueness in the steering and handling. And 20 years later... Some models don't even get an anti-roll bar.

That looks like the most comfortable vehicle ever made. The likes of the computer controlled carb would scare the curse word out of me, I've had the misfortune to muck with the Honda computer controlled carbs... errrr, no thanks.
I think your first addition should be a 12V red rotating flashing light, with a magnetic base!!!
Top stuff, a real breath of fresh air for RR that's for sure!

I like it! It looks to me like something that this guy would drive... ... in Police Squad! Make sure to knock over some 'trash cans' when you park it!

Yep, you need to stack shiny clean cardboard boxs on your drive everytime you go out so you can knock them over on your return

I absolutely love yank barges, and this is yanky and bargy, so I loves it.

M bodys were popular cop cars in the 80s before the dominance of the caprice and CROWN vic Well there was an "AHB" police anti roll bar on eBay for $500 not long ago LOL. The Diplomat, Caravelle and Gran Fury AHB stuff will fit the Fifth Avenue. The problem is the costs of getting great big greasy bits of suspension shipped across the Atlantic. One upgrade I really want to do is swap in either a 8.25 or better yet 8.75 rear axle under the car. the stock 7.25 has no choice of ratios and has toothpicks for driveshafts. Cop and towing package M Bodies got the 8.25 and there are easy-fit donors for the 8.75 but not common in UK breakers... If I am going to the bother of refitting suspension then 25 years of aftermarket develoment means there are now better options than just chucking the cop spec stuff in there. Although the cop front end mountings as still where its at. It would be fun to make a "handling package" Fifth Avenue, thats longer term perhaps, but for now the wobbly mode is good fun... More news as / if it happens.

OK, afternoon off work and it runs. Not brilliantly, but it runs. Got a parcel of parts from USAutomotive, all the esentials are here (coffee not included, hed to provide that myself) and then to work, the engine bay is a huge mess of pipes and wires. Damn I'm regretting not buying another Cortina now. The engine bays in them are simplicity itself and plenty of space to get to everything. On this one, you can just about see the spark plugs... many grazed knuckles to be had here... Well, it went as well as could be expected. I broke on of the (new) plugs, and one of the HT leads so had to go out and get replacements from the local motor spares place. The plugs look and feel like they've been in there years. The HT leads felt like someone had glued them on (hense me breaking one!) One very old spark plug... Did the rotor arm and dizzy cap, did my best to soak the carb through with cleaner and got her running. You want to see the definition of restrictive? Check the carb out... Anyway, it runs and drives. Its behaving oddly when its on cold, and its still very sluggish. I have yet to change the vacuum lines to the computer (have the right hose, just ran out of daylight) and I'm going to block off the EGR circuit see if that helps (it still does odd backfires which is often either vacuum signal or EGR related) but got chance to take a couple of photos in the daylight anyway First one shows how manky the vinyl landau roof is. Yuk. Anyway, it drives, so thats step one complete. Making it drive well is steps 2 though 99. In the best traditions of these things I managed to make an extra job, damaged the heater contol valve so now it leaks coolant as well. Valve was old and weak, but a whack from a slipping breaker bar getting one of the plugs out was just too much for it...

blimey mate, rip all the curse word off, just a simple 2bbl rochester or something whacked on and the computer controlled rubbish off. Does the aircon work? Rip that out as well, waaaayyyyy too much curse word in that engine bay :-)

Fill the trunk with batteries and hydraulic stuff, and go bouncy bouncy ;D And of course, add gold wire wheels with whitestriped tyres

I can do bouncy bouncy without hydraulics. Just hit a speed bump at more than 5 MPH and its rockin and rollin all over the shop for half an hour after.
I'm wanted to leave the declutter until I had time to deal with it properly. I might be forced to go down that route to get it running 100% anyway. Problem is that the ECU links the carb and the distributor and that the inlet manifold is specific to all the emissions/computer cack. So some degree of feckery is required to sort it properly. Or I could buy me a Edelbrock inlet and pop a 4 barrel on there.
Fixing the stock settup is now a challenge! And is probably cheaper. All I want is decent reliable running over the winter.
I want to keep the aircon. It works. The Performer manifold is compatible with the stock AC compressor.
