Plugs Oil and filter change done In other news the solenoid for the EWP (cool down circuit after shut down) has decided it doesn’t want to play any more The electric fan needed a new fuse (pretty normal cos it runs a lot with old rad) but hasn’t even chirped with the new rad yet despite extended driveway running so that’s a goid sign Oh and it still smokes like a curse word when hot and ticking over - time to either replace the turbos or invest in a scavenge pump for the turbo drains

Yuk! the plugs look a mess, its normally oil down the plug wells? looks like mudd?!! Good reason for that - bonnet vents are over the chargecooler My drive slopes - rain goes in through the bonnet vents and runs off the chargecooler - straight into the plug wells for number one and two When they fill up the overflow goes into 3 - 6 on a one by one basis I keep meaning to make some drip trays to sit under the bonnet vents and divert the rainwater elsewhere I’m more carefull when I wash the car to cover the engine first

In my defence the car spends most of the time broken anyway - so whats the occasional miss fire between friends - it's done a lot worse to me over the 18 years I've owned it!!! Anyway you aren't slapdash - you have restrictions, limitations and budget constraints that hinder your progress (I have too - the grand total of spend to date this year on the LC just to get it ready for the Le Mans Classic is a few quid under £1500 and I've done exactly 18 miles in it so far as preparation for 1000 miles...... However this is quite normal for me - in fact my co-pilot for the journey to Le Mans commented today as he dropped off all his camping gear that I'd finished early!!!! Cheeky curse word!!!!!

Ahh another Norfolk design is it?! just letting the body rot is not enough, lets rot the engine too! Senator and Carlton 24V's fill the plug wells up with oil if you don't change the rocker cover seals on a 10 year basis Lotus Decided to cut the holes in the bonnet to fit vents in a position that would be most effective in getting rid of excess hest from the engine bay...... Oil floats on water so any oil leaks are washed away by the water D They didn't expect a car that was best part of £50,000 new in 1991 to sit on a driveway in all weathers Oh and most of the rot spots on Lotus Carltons are shared with the Senators and Carltons - they (Lotus) did however add a few more spots - well quite a lot of spots actually

What could possibly go wrong? Have a great trip and give my love to Maison Blanche. No excuses for a lack of pics either...unless your fixing the LC!

I might be a weeny bit biased though!

I'm very biased too - having owned well over a dozen Senator B's in 12V and 24V flavours (one or two were ex-polac so manual and another was an auto that I converted to manual as well as and a couple of GSi's over the years that six pot is a real honey of an engine - on song it's like ripping silk

Great thread and story telling. Sounds like the relationship I have with my E39 M5.

Not such a great journey home as about 50 lm away from Paris it developed another missfire
Gut feel is plug leads (plugs are new - leads are 5 or 6 years old but I'm probably going to leave it a while as I need to sort out some other stuff

Or it could the wrong type of mud on the plugs. There's a lot more sulphur in French mud so if you recoated them locally the spark intensity may be compromised by inert Gallic gas.

I had a great time got there Wed so had a free day Thursday to clean the car - it ran perfectly down there and to and from the track acting at a minicab for some of the other members of Norfolk Mountain Rescue Club (well it is a Carlton ;-) ) Even had chance to clean the engine bay a little And just after this picture on the way home it rewarded me with a massive misfire and reduce performance (50mph max up hill and 80 mph max down hill - anything more than a whisper of throttle cause the engine to miss horribly) But in it's defence it did get me home

It is a thing of beauty Bstard.
You might know (or know of) a geezer that lives round the corner from me. He has the Lotus Opel Omega designation. It is utterly immaculate. I'll see it just one summer day every few years when he gets it out from its secret location and parks it up outside his house to clean and polish it ready for a show.
It's clearly his absolute pride and joy. On the odd occasions it's there I always stop and have a good look and he always appears very swiftly seeming a bit cautious as though I might touch it inappropriately. He never remembers me from the previous time, so we go through the same routine each time where I express my admiration and then he slowly relaxes and opens up a bit and chats about the car.
He's possibly of Indian family. Quiet bloke. Awesome spotless car. Lives in Brighton&Hove.
Know him by any chance from your Carlton gatherings?

Fuel pump? Had similar missfires etc on stuff over the years due to failing fuel pump. Usually on cars that havnt had much use. Fuel now seems to eat everything old and plastic or rubber
