My rust old Pop... Its actually been owned by me for the last 5+ years. I bought it as a runner from a friend of mine, drove it back from Wimbledon, then started on the bodywork. De chromed it, removed bumpers, etc etc, then I moved to Cornwall, and my mates who's garden the car was in moved to Newcastle. So today with the much needed help of a mate of mine called Ross and his company freelander van we decided to remove it from some bushes, and take it home. First problem... opening the doors - they'd not opened in years. managed that, then the next problem.. someone left the handbrake on. Brake pedal is rock solid, front wheels are siezed. Fúck. So with a lump hammer and some WD40 we free the front wheels, after almost melting the clutch in Ross' freelander. A 5 minute tow up the hill, which in itself was a pretty brave move, in something with semi-inflated tyres, and vaguer steering that the titanic had  No brakes, but my mate Ross towed it well, and we've got it home. I've got 2 weeks to get it gone, either running, or in pieces, or scrapped... I'm going to attempt to get it running first, just for the challenge Pics: Makes the Skoda look mint....

Great stuff! I'd love to have a bash at one of these old Pop's. My pops had one as his first car back in '65 so doing a spesh one would please him too.

Cute car! Did you find Roland Rat inside it?
Is it solid or hanging underneath?
Good luck with it!

I'll poke it about tomorrow Al, see how solid it is...
If its really not that shabby, you can have it. Seriously, I mean take it away gratis. I've got a sneaking suspicion that the floor is quite solid, just the sills are grotty, and the trim around the glassware.
Its also been shot at, repeatedly

I'm sniffing round one locally which has a 1600 x/f and all the usual running gear swaps, needs a bit of tidying, and an interior. But he wants money for it I need to check some practicalities (and wife) before committing to anything.

I reckon I have twigged what the Escort was needed for now You'd be better off with an Anglia axle and front crossmember and a standard leg disc conversion kit wouldn't you? Escort stuff kind of fits but it's a bit wide and the crossmember sets the engine a bit far back if you use a crossflow. btw, I'm not checking with the other half this time. Learned from my mistake before so it'll just have to turn up one day ;D

heh heh, harder for me to hide them these days so best to check first... I had thought that using the Escort gear would widen the track and reduce the scrub radius (necessitating FWD offset wheels) so the thing might handle... my old one had Escort legs and a 105E rear.

Well I've got a spare crossmember and it's a direct swap if memory serves so if you decide to go for the blue one give me a shout.

Buying a BMW or a Bentley & looking cool is easy, but the credit doesn't go to you.Taking an unloved car that cost £500 & making it good enough to get photos in magazines or stand out alongside cars that cost one hundred times more is a skill reserved for us loonies!

Meh, my wife points out I don;t have time or money to do what I have at home as it is. Fair point. For various reasons I can't really push the issue at the moment. Johnny got 2nd dibs I think...
