Hi Doctor,
8R is around 1850cc.... I have an 18R lying in the back of my garage, condition unknown, think thats a 2litre.
What was the 18-RG in?
Was hoping Toyota were like ford in regard to the gearbox..ie. same bellhousing for years so that I could get something more available...... Have low oil pressure on startup, do you think its worth popping in new main bearings ...or just live with it !
Theres a guy in US can supply the bearings..
Cheers Gerry

Cheers Gerry If you use the info on the page below and other pages on the same site it should answer most Toyota related questions. The most popular car to use the 18R-G was the 1st Gen Celica in RA28GT form in this country i.e. the Liftback that looked like a mini-Mustang. These engines are sought after but the standard 18R is a lot more common and is a 2 litre. ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/stepho/engcodes.htm

i think most R series engine will bolt up to your gearbox (i think it's a VERY Heavy P51, or maybe a W50, but i don't know for sure). 18R-G is a 2 litre, 18R is also, but has 105 bhp i believe.

Today I enjoyed the great wheater we have overhere and took the Carina out for a drive.... to my shed Stripped the interior out today, and started removing the cage. Started removing fluids and surroundings from the engine, so it can come out for the welder (if needed, but engine needs to come out anyway). Friday, the car is picked up to go to the guy who's gonna weld it for me. If it returns is time to put on the flares and spoiler and such. Sfter that it's paint time ;D And 1 good weather bonus point today was this: That's my stock driveshaft (from the K40 gearbox) in the T50 which is going to sit behind the 2T-G. It's a direct fit Boxes are the same length, i've got a subframe for a 2T-G, so everything should swap in easily ;D

got her stripped today, it's gone to the welder, when it's back i'm chopping away the sound deadening en make her ready for a new layer of paint ;D Cage was a curse word to remove, stupid englishmen from Safety Devices... (overhere, English people have the name to guess every size instead of measuring it, my cage doesn't fit 100%) Nice retro convoy: Beetle is an 1303LS from the first month they made them as convertible, value is in the 10.000+ euro range

How do you mean "they have the name" that's not a matter of reputation, that's just a fact... Ever tried fitting any parts to British Leyland products :-)

rear arches addapted to take the flares: Gonna look nice I think ;D But to fill the arches I needed something spethial, and so I went to one of the greatest websites on the interwebs and bought these... 9x13 ET -30 (yeah, MINUS 30 ) Can't wait to get them here!!!! The price I bought them for was stupidely low (WELL below 100 euro), but shipping will add a fair bit to that, but I don't mind ;D now I need to search some tires, any tips? Stretch = ok (and needed I think, no way 235's are going to fit under the flares), but no mega stretch please

Cool project! I say stretch some 175/50's on them...failing that get some 195s on there.
Did you get 'em off Yahoo japan auctions?
Ke20s are cool. I've always wanted to make a te27 replica out of one.

Looking good. But I agree 175 on a 9inch wheel is just stupid! I'd say minimun 205 width on a 9inch wheel, I run 195's on 8inch rims and they're stretched but not so much that the tyre fitter will give up and tell you a curse word off
