It's about time I started one of these! Bought in 2002 as a replacement for my marina blue 1600TA, sold to Dubscene magazine. It originally looked like this: and was bought as a 'runner', including the inverted commas which indicate it was a runner if you were a bloody lunatic. The brakes especially were little short of apathetic of any stopping requirements. Features: Engine of unknown capacity, possibly a 1641, maybe 1776, but since it works we're loathed to strip it to find out! Pair of carbs from a Porsche 356 sticking through the engine cover One-piece fibreglass flipfront 'Smoothed' dash - in reality some wallpaper stuck over filler that was deep enough to cover the heater controls without removing them. It then sat for a year in my garage, before being trailered down to t3d in cambridgeshire for some much needed safety work. this involved a whole new braking setup, new exhaust (after puppy nearly poisoned himself driving it to the test station), some welding although only a tiny amount, and an MoT. I then proudly drove it back..... and put it in a barn along with a few bits I'd collected - a pretty good dash top (getting rare, but a £10 clearout bargain!), two new doors with proper windows to replace the one-pieces, and some new lights and dials. Roll on three years, and I've just been to the owner of the barn who is arranging for the rewiring to take place - when the dash was smoothed all the wiring was fooked - and he reports it should be done within the month. yay! then it's time for my porsche 944 seats to be trimmed and fitted, a carpet and some paint. if it's not done by bugjam, i'm reliably informed by my wife that the salvage yard over the road have a crushing machine that would like to meet it..... current state is - (excuse the cameraphone pics....)

dubscene sort of fell in on itself, lack of advertising revenue and sales really. it was a bit of a heat-of-the-moment thing when TotalVW got chopped, and i think the guys at dubscene found out the reasons for the chop! as for the car..... racer! I've mocked this up on T3Selecta.. although i now think a black roof, and remove the roofrack for racing Wheels are sorted, i've got my MAG Racing wheels as found at Kinky Mick's (only ever seen 4 sets!), they're black with polished highlights. Can't have bumpers anyway as the rear mounts are missing, and the front of the car is fibreglass. Got a pair of porsche 944 seats to trim for the interior and box/carpet over where the rear seat used to be.

I like the Type 3s. If I go aircooled again, I will be owning a T3 I think . So, when do you think it will be done by? P.S, my mum tells me the same thing about crushers .

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

should be done for BugJam - to get it ready for CARS would involve working 36 hours a day on it. I'm gonna try and it will probably be drivable but it depends whether i want to bring it as a work-in-progress - depends how scabby it looks

Awesome! I love these, and yours looks like a nice project. I like the look your going for, if it was me i'd have the rear end scraping aswell as the front Reckon you should run it round with the bodywork as-is for a few years, ala "that" hoodride notch (simular colour to yours, uber low with crazy neg camber) Good luck with your project!

cunning thing is, there's no inner wings on my car so i can narrow the front to some crazy amount only downside is that it's a 70's T3, they're deemed too ugly to be cool so nobody bothers with them

update: off to the auto-electricians she goes, to make sense of the wiring! My lovely little mechanical friend says he might put an MoT on it too (properly like, nothing dodgy!) as it's only done 75 miles since the last one, then been dry stored.

That 'hoodride' Notchback above has given me an idea:

If only everything in life was as cool as a retro VW racer.

Hey hey kids! Remember this? Well it came home last week, and work has started. In particular I found these on the flipfront underneath the matt black; But anyway. It has a shiny new MoT, it drove back from Southwell fine apart from the battery going flat at the petrol station, and it's as loud, lairy and insane as I remember. Done:Rewired, just to the extent that the right lights come on the dashboard and it starts without the hazards being on. Get it home. Fit original door locks from the old doors so it's all back on one key. Started onGetting it all the same colour - currently just red primering it all to make it more 'socially acceptable' but the plan is still for Savanah Beige eventually. To doPaint it properly Just poke around the engine and investigate oil leak - possibly pushrod tube Get porsche seats out of my loft and fitted to car - retrim can come later. Fit proper front indicators and 'glass up holes for the teardrop ones. Get and fit rear bumper Ditch rear seat Carpet it Get rest of filler and fibreglass off the dash, paint the lower bit, fit the dashtop properly. Make window winders work properly, fit door cards.

Sunday - a day of working on cars. Sadly got a nursery to paint but i managed to sneak out and fiddle a little bit, just a bit of poking around and removing clutter and seeing what's what. Took some proper pics too Here's how the beast looks now! All the back is primered, just gotta do the flipfront and half the roof. Interior is about as bare as it gets. Saxo seat for driver, passenger gets squishy squishy OE seat. Porker seats in shed, can't fit them yet as T3D welded the saxo seat in for the MoT, so out comes the grinder! MAG Industries wheels to go on... they got resprayed a few years back but being damp stored has taken its toll on the magnesium. They'll do for the time being Oh and check out the stretch on the fronts... 155 Firestones, from 2001. Who says the euro boys have all the new tricks?
