Hey! I do drive mine, went to the supermarket in it yesterday!!! I just have to stop every so often and get out to look at it, to remind me why I am driving it. To be fair you've got more cool cars than I've got socks so the choice of which to drive must make any journey a dilemma!

Mr B speaks the truth. Mazda's pre RX-7 are well and truly retro-tech (and even Pre-85 RX-7s are hardly "modern"). I think they spent all their money on the rotary and couldn't afford to do anything else interesting!
That said, a rotary does transform the cooking models into something quite special.

Put a pretty low bid in for a 1500 from 1970 in Holland, seller emailed me to get in touch but it turns out it's been standing still in his garage for 10 years and requires quite a bit of work... damn my technical ineptitude and lack of garage space. Nice car by the way!

Bumping back from pg 15 (!). I've taken a deposit on selling the Mazda. On the other hand, I'm looking at getting something slightly newer, though of similar vintage and definately well retro.

It's going to someone who's even more mad for the car than I am. It's all good.

Very nice car Saru. Give us a hint as to what you will be getting next, Still mazda?
Either way that car looked real nice, always love the look of these for a nice weekend cruiser and I would like to build one up specifically for this reason in the near future.
Also, love that Mazda number plate, any idea at all where is was sourced or where I could have one made? I have been looking for one for my Mazda 600. Its a log way off needing it but I would still like it there for that day.

The mazda numberplate is just a photcopy stuck onto coreflute/foam. The PO did it. I'll ask him how.
Looking at the potential replacement tonight. It's French.

There are still hundreds of these cars about in Pakistan as taxis and in private ownership. Didn't see any in as good condition as that though, and what running gear they now have in them is anybody's guess. If you need spares though, Pakistan might be a good source. The country is rapidly modernising these days and the older cars like these Mazdas are dying away, making way for what they think is the ultimate car, the Toyota Corolla TE70 / TE71 1200cc saloon which the country is full of.

Pakistan? Crazy. So, in order to sell the car I need to get it roadworthied. The rules for how and where and when you get cars roadworthied are different in every state in Oz, but here in Queensland most mechanics can do it, it costs about AUD$50 and they just check that the car isn't falling apart. Because most places have no idea about these Mazdas, I figured any place would do so I picked the one opposite the train station because it was convenient and they often have a fair variety of weird and wacky stuff outside so it seems that they can deal with the unusual. So I dropped the Mazda off for it's RWC and they rang up and said that everything was cool except the centre-bearing for the two-piece tailshaft was shagged. Damn. "Ummm..." I said. "Let me ring some peeps and see what they know". Rang a dude who restores old Mazdas. I figured if anyone would know, he would. "Nah, mate, can't get 'em". Rang a dude who has three or four of these. "I put single-piece tailshafts in". Getting a single-piece tailshaft made up would probably come to as much as I'm selling the car for. Next. Emailed a dude who resto'd one of these and a search on AusRotary revealed that he'd had a similar problem but never posted the solution. "I bought one new from Mazda". WTF? Rang back the mechanics: get one from Mazda. Problem solved. No. They told me that Mazda had never heard of such a part. They sent the tail-shaft off to the diff place that they use to see if something could be bodgied up. No. Umm... "Look," they said, "would you ring around and see if you can find out more from the dude who said that he bought one?". No worries. But who to ring? Start at the top, right? So I rang Mazda head office in Melbourne and said what I wanted. Took my description down and said they'd ring me back. I thought "yeah, right" and commenced ringing around the big dealers here in Brissy. Rang a few and head a voicemail show up on my office phone. Mazda HQ had rung back with the part no for the April 67-on 1500/1800: 0022325300D. $98. Rang a dealer and confirmed the part exists. Yep. Now that's service. Rang the mechanics: please order this part and fit it. *dances*

Woah, I never have expected that. Might even give it a shot with the 600 . I know the bloke who got all the old 600 parts Mazda QLD owned. Great to hear that it all worked out perfect. You got a number to the head office?

michiel I know for a fact Toyota have virtually nothing here. There is some NOS stuff about in japan(stay away, if anyones getting em its me after all my hassles so far) but a very high executive from Toyota Australia has already confirmed there is nothing left sadly.
