Officially a Hot Rod is always going to be a Pre-49 body style...or a replica of one. Obviously in the UK there's an arguement for including Sit-up-and-beg Pops and Anglias into that category too.
What we won't do or need to do here is judge your car for being a Hot Rod or not...it's clearly a great car! Yours is exactly the kind of car that the UK Hot Rod scene is made of and the kind of car that CC would feature.
I'd say you are a Hot Rodder and you've got a V8 powered Pro-Street 100E. That sounds good enough for me!

I've had this for years - I have run modded minors since 1973, and have in the past experienced car snobbery (by some - not all), having attended runs all over the country in the 70's and 80's. I have recently returned to the scene (with same car - getting re built) in the last 3 years, and am disappointed to hear that the same nonsense exists (again by minority - and mags). I have minors by choice - I could afford to buy an A/B etc if I wanted, but I don't. It's refreshing to find no evidence of snobbery here. A minor is also a pre 49 motor, and certainly more so than a plastic kit (wait for flak) But there again, everyone is entitled to their opinions - free country (well maybe not!!)

TommG: I'm not sure if I'm going to do the paint or not i would like to give it to someone with a bag of cash and say do it to show standard but I'm not that rich,i`ll have a go at the body and see what happens. HotWire:seems more freindly already with a lot more interest in my car than i thought i would get as its a hot rod. rmad:i could not have said it better there are more cars of the style mine is on the hot rod scene than pre 49 cars so surly mine is more of a british hot rod than a 32 ford which is actually America,i do class myself as a hot rodder but as i don't favour the pre 49 style car i don't seem to fit in, and I'm quite interested after the 100E is finished in doing a series 2 mondeo, but make it rear wheel drive with st 220 body style and a ford 302 V8 under the bonnet, this really wont go down well in the hot rod circle, i know i`ve asked.

Good on ya man if you fancy a different Mondy! I have a sierra V8 which is easier as its already RWD. 'Hot rodders' get funny about the replicas too don't they? Cant say i know the full history but, it may well originate from the early cars, but isn't it in principle what we do here at RR but more extreme. get a car thats older, cheap, unassuming, then put a bigger motor in and newer bits, and tear up the streets/strip As i said i don't know much about the scene but for me its a bout the spirit,, the type of people doing it. not who has the time and money to do up a rare old pre 49 car. I have to say though i do love hot rods though they look great, and rightly or wrongly you car fits into a similar category in my mind. As i said, What a project, tis gonna be great.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

thanks for the offer of the sierra but i`ve done one of them already and as you say they are already rear driven, which makes it to easy really for me anyway and lets face it when did you last see a mondeo V8 rear drive, and when did you see a sierra V8. your right about the hot rodders and the kit replica thing, its a don't dare say word kit car for there 32 ford even though it was bought as a ready build chassis and body with mainly bolt on parts, but lets not mock the afflicted thats cruel. any idea how to load these pics on here??

Daz,
You could have saved yourself a fair bit of work on the Morris - a fully restored shell was sold on E bay recently for around £128. I know the work required, and expense to restore one - a guy on the Minor owner's club site is up to £3000 on parts alone so far, without it being sprayed. I've found that using a fiat twin cam is not without it's problems - try getting bits for them now - a guy on the Minor Mania site is having problems with his. They are great engines, but if in the early stages you can choose something more modern, then do so. Current favourite is K series - lighter than A series and can give loads of power and good fuel economy. Keep up the good work.

Hi Pete. i know what your saying about the twin cam fiat and the body shell, but the work you see on here was done by me quite a while ago now and we bought the car nearly 2 years ago and from my point i bought the worsed one i could find so i could weld it up myself that way i know its done right, the fiat engine thats going in it was bought as a package with all the bits there to fit into the minor everything down to nuts and bolts, tunnel, clutch, handbrake, mounts, fan, suspension, even seats for £200 so we thought it was the cheapest way ahead, if not it was going to get a ford zetec or rover V8 but were stuck with the fiat now. i have just seen on ebay a cute little morris 8 series E, and i`ve got 2 spare Rover V8 engines so another car might start to happen soon. the mondeo sounds great, would love to see that done with an early example in flaky burgandy and steel rims, on a full on race chassis. ;D ;D

mrsigma. that was`nt really the idea in mind i thought more of a stock looking mk2 ST220 body with big alloys full leather trim stock chassis but with sierra front end a capri 2.8 rear axle and a 302 V8 under the hood, who would know it was there until it started up and left 2 black rubber marks from the rear.
