Welcome to teh forum Monzamad. If you need any advice on monza`s or any 6 cylinder Vauxhall/Opel then Bstardchild is a world expert ;D Looking forward to seeing pictures of your car. As Bstardchild says the type of rebuild/restoration you are looking at would be expensive and there are 2 monza specialists in the UK that will do this type of work and the price can be between £5,000-30,000 depending on level of restoration required. Pleased to hear that you are planning on driving it though rather than restoring it just so it can be polished.

Hmm thanks for comments, taken onboard, she has had some money spent on her apparently and trying to gain some more facts as to WHAT has happened since our "divorce" LMAO ... She had an inspection by a trust worthy mechanic who took a whole day, well half a day probably inspecting her from underneath and everywhere else and structurally she has no rot, but that was THEN and now is NOW ... I think she has had a cover over her or even been stored in a dry garage, hopefully with heaters and blanket, she loves attention, well so does her owner *blush* LMAO and she loves TLC, so I am hoping there isn't much to do. If structuraly sound then restoring it shouldn't be too bad - trouble is it's not what you can see but what you can't see. One day I'll do a what to look for post to detect a rotten Monza The people who have her in their garden at the moment say that the repairs and bringing her up to speed and looks will cost 4,000 euros, so you can see my point about restoring something I already know and love rather than buying something from scratch and getting to know her faults. I've always been a great subscriber to better the devil you know Well maybe I shall keep her engine and management system as standard and just get some new hoses and stuff like that, she was prone to wanting new hoses and leaking from place to palce (this story is starting to sound like a porn story - ooppsss not really the right forum is it!!) Sounds like fuel injection leaks to me I shall have to scan in some old photos of her, I have somewhere the restoration project from before. I think to get things going, she needs another inspection to find out what are the faults, so I need a man who knows his way around her body, then I need an estimate, then she either needs another respray, maybe black is being too adventureous then, maybe she should be kept silver, you're right! Pig to change a car colour without going back to a bare shell and that get expensive if you aren't gonna do any work yourself Yeah dig out your contacts, the guy who is looking after it said there is a guy down in Cornwall, have googled around, and the only place I saw was GM6, I shall have to find out if that is the place. GM6 is the better/more reasonable of the two Derek ThomsonGM6 Unit 3 The Old Dairy Sancreed Penzance Cornwell TR20 8QW Tel 01736 810500 (workshop) Tel 07774 418707 (mobile) Email: derek ATgm6spares DOTfsnet DOTco DOTuk In the interest of Balance - I'll post the alternative Derek HuntMonzaman 44 Liddymore Road Watchet Sommerset TA23 0DT Tel: 01984 633870 Tel: 07799 694636 (Mobile) www.monzaman.comemail: derek ATmonzaman DOTcom So this is your B reg GSE, mine too is B reg. Anyhow BastardChild (oh dear I can't call you that, better BC) Mine is Molly. Hi Molly - BC is fine Luckily there are quite a few more spare parts over in Germany as you would image for the Monza, so am lucky in that respect. Yeah I'd die for a Monza Diesel Bonnet!!! Good to hear that there is a gathering. I checked out some of the UK clubs websites and they didn't provide too much info. Would be good if there was just the one club and everyone concentrated their efforts into that really. PhoenixC - you know that's not even close to true - I've just been running straight six Opel/vauxhalls for a few years and you pick up the odd thing ot two As Bstardchild says the type of rebuild/restoration you are looking at would be expensive and there are 2 monza specialists in the UK that will do this type of work and the price can be between £5,000-30,000 depending on level of restoration required. Reminds me must post the pics up of the £30,000 one sometime

Picture from last track day when it was running Fugging thing - looks bloody level there....... - Should have taped the fogs before I went out on the first lap might have survived a bit better - Drivers side one is shot to bits - Looks toothy without a headlight if I'd taped the other side up fully it would have matched

Yeah I'd die for a Monza Diesel Bonnet!!! ?? Why? ? I spent a good few hours reading from page one, man BC and Phoenix you're both the dogs b*llocks ... BC you gotta have worked on cars before okay maybe not electrics but you know your way around and obviously picked up a spray can before!!! LOL Wow you blew my minds away, I wish I had the workshop, the time to do all that. I certainly would have the energy. When I was younger I used to don overalls and jumble sale clothes to help fix up my dads car or my moms car, while all my friends played with dolls!!! That lasted for a number of years, and many a boyfriend got hacked off when I said I was busy under the car on a Saturday!!! Those were the days. I think I guess its good to pay someone now to do all that stuff for me, and for me just to drive hard and mean. Yeah you're right about the paintjob, win the Euromillions first then do that. I've always been a firm believer in driving a good car *coughs* apart from Fords!!! spit spit .... but the little Fiesta right now drove 3000kms the last four days around Italy and being scared with the trucks passing us, giving us bad backs and unable to take bikes with us, its sucks but she is a good car, just miss the Monza, and always look twice when I see Monzas on the road, try and detour just to get better looks. I could seriously have mine done for 30k although I think they are worth it, and the looks you get from older gentlemen when a petite blonde gets out of the driving seat is a classic time after time, and not a large German beer belly !!! Oh see now I just can't wait. I shall post pics tomorrow when I find them, damn it where did I put that portfolio. Shall do a google for those monza bonnets see what comes up. I shall also try and source a good bloke here that I can flutter eyelashes at and show a little leg to assist me in my quest for spare for The Silver Lady. Definitely not going for that anthrazit metallik for sale near Stuttgart now, will stick to what I know and love. Have been wondering where to buy a new dashboard, mine split, but maybe it can be repaired? More cost effective to repair rather than rip out and replace. I gotta show you my alloys, I bought them off Charlie Brighton based near Heathrow, anyone know if he is still there. I need winter alloys too, I mean winter tyres ... getting late. Guys thanks for the heads up on all the info posted, I saw most of these on the web. Once I find a source over here that is realiable I hope I can be of help in posting any goodies to you. Laters .........zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yeah I'd die for a Monza Diesel Bonnet!!! ?? Why? ? Cos they have a hump in the middle that clears the 24V rocker cover unlike the std bonnet I spent a good few hours reading from page one, man BC and Phoenix you're both the dogs b*llocks ... Nah we both just like Monzas BC you gotta have worked on cars before okay maybe not electrics but you know your way around and obviously picked up a spray can before!!! LOL Useless with electrics - thats what friends are for and as far as paint - I'm alright with a brush!!! Wow you blew my minds away, I wish I had the workshop, the time to do all that. Whatever suits - no shame in that but what I get satisfaction from is doing as much as I can myself Yeah you're right about the paintjob, win the Euromillions first then do that. It's always the last thing I worry about!!! Timeless and it turns more heads than my Lotus Carlton too I could seriously have mine done for 30k although I think they are worth it, and the looks you get from older gentlemen when a petite blonde gets out of the driving seat is a classic time after time, and not a large German beer belly !!! Oh see now I just can't wait. 30K is daft IMHO but it was what the owner was prepared to spend over 5 years of the restoration process but that did include a new shell, engine etc and very little of the original car was re-used I shall post pics tomorrow when I find them, damn it where did I put that portfolio. waiting for that Have been wondering where to buy a new dashboard, mine split, but maybe it can be repaired? More cost effective to repair rather than rip out and replace. Hard to repair and hard to find one thats not cracked I gotta show you my alloys, I bought them off Charlie Brighton based near Heathrow, anyone know if he is still there. I need winter alloys too, I mean winter tyres ... getting late. Ahhh Charlie - Ex of the ABS - I think he trades from home still Guys thanks for the heads up on all the info posted, I saw most of these on the web. No probs

the red arrows, not the flying troupe!! the red arrows means needs work ... like the dashboard that is split, how does that get repaired??? Alloys, important to look good, although at the moment, want the chassic strong and her heart strong too ...
As you see the plastics are off, I have them, should I put them back, not overly fussed about having them on though ...

Guys, if you didn't know the history of this vehicle what would be the first things you would inspect and probably change whatever the circumstances?
I was thinking of the Swing Arms/Trailing Arms, stripped, shot blasted, powder painted and add new polyurethane bushes just to make sure they are new ....
Check chassis out for rot.
Take al interior out and pull up carpets and see what holes there are and strip out the sound proofing, rust proof it first and then add new sound proofing ...
Oh and engine management/tweaking and new hoses to make sure nothing leaks or comes apart ...
Put on rolling road for a test.
Have I missed anything out?

BC - I saw you bought some 17" Rondell 58's rim width 7J and offset 75, what kind of rubber are you wrapping around them with?
What stud diameter do you/we need?

I actually don't think they will suit the car and my 16's are a far better propersition - much better tyre selection. What stud diameter do you/we need? PCD is 5 x 120 (BMW size )
