1979 Allegro 1100 Deluxe 40, 000 miles and thanks to a DVLA c*ck-up I'm the only registered keeper (was originally my dad's from new). Currently fitted with a Stage 1 tuning kit including modded RC40 Mini exhaust. Will end up with MG Metro motor when I find 1 cheap enough!! ;D 1988 Sierra XR4x4 2.8 MFi 130K and lots of owners (most of whom seem to have neglected it). LOTS of welding, top end rebuild, suspension rebuild, full brake system rebuild. Always something else to fix, but I love it. Doesn't have those wheels or exhaust now either.

IIRC the metro vanden plas engine is the same as the MG without the turbo, might be worth finding and sorting the turbo at a later date.

Super! Brown Allegro - I can't think of anything better to make into a sleeper! Welcome minor rant - can you make your sig pic a bit smaller... e.g 100pixels tall? That goes for you too SkodaNorman!

Thought about going for a K series, but too much hassle I think when I can just go for another A series. Currently only the stage 1 kit inc. exhaust etc. I have a 12G 295 head for it, but have decided to go for the bigger motor, think the head my be damaged anyway :-((
I am trying to track down info on some of the 1970's "performance" conversions done to Allegros. I have some write-ups etc, but am trying to clarify the suspension mods. Shocks were fitted to the front which has the effect of stiffening the whole Hydrolastic system, but I need more info regarding how they are mounted to the inner wing and bottom arm. Looking at using either something from a Metro (van I think) or mini shocks.
Also need to work out which wheels I can use. Need something about 5.5x13 to take 185/60 13's, but I want normal steels, if possible still with chrome hubcaps.

Excellent! unusual pairing of two very nice cars! I have a real soft spot for t'umble Allegro! looks to be really tidy aswell! I had the same initial thought as Hairnet600, K series! a nice revvy 1.4 would be spot on for the job, and would keep road tax costs down too! still, like you say, it would provide a lot of hassle fitment wise, still though...

My first two cars were allegros. I miss them Used to have a wail of a time going round the outside of roundabouts past my mate with his £1000 of leda suspension Nova GTE ;D Mind you, he caned it when it came to using the accelerator I had an RC40 silencer and an MG engine in it, but not enough unfortunately, and then the tinworm killed the first one, so I bought the 2nd and transferred all the bits over. Then that died from rust too Turbotechnics did a turbo conversion for them many many years ago. Probably sold at least 2 kits I reckon a turbo metro lump should do nicely. Most late A+ engines used the turbo block, don't know about pistons though. Turbos, manifolds etc. frequently appear on ebay. Go for it!!!
