Ok folks, after reading the "Lurkers" Thread I decided also to show you one of my rides, maybe not really retro yet, but I like it... this is how it started : we are talking about the red one; extremely ugly camping roof, SUV suspension fitted, much too high.... The prevoius owner started to convert it into a camper: So we fitted a (brown) Multivan interior, this is my girlfriend painting it.... a visit to the local "IKEA" made the brown seats disappear.... next thing was the roof, which we cut down... then a used roof was fitted (looks like Westfalia, but isn't) Then I was happy for a couple of days, but still I thought there was something to do.... so next thing was color... I wanted a two-tone paint.... Don't laugh about the way, the van was painted, it was all done on a budget, and the result is ok for this... the wheels, a cheep way to make them look good... so the windows were tinted, and the off-road suspension was removed and the van was lowered... some more bits were done since then, the rear bumper was also color-coded, some 70s fog lamps were fitted, I am happy with the result, it's my daily driver and in terms of a small budget I think it is ok... oh yes, it's an 2,1l with 95 BHP, which is ok, the engine has a lot of torque, fuel consumption is ok and I just love it...now I am looking for a set of chrome bumpers, some Recaros for the front and that should be it... also in my fleet : 1980 Type 25 panelvan with two sliding doors 1980 Audi 100 (long time project since 1990...) 1984 VW Passat hatchback (mint condition) 1986 VW Passat hatchback (for the winter)

Welcome. Thats great, doing your own work on a budget not a simple task, but looks like you got it. good move getting rid of that big roof that looked like an upside down boat!, looks good now with the painted roof and funky interior. recon its retro enough too since these were out same time as mk 1 & 2 golfs etc.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Thanks for the nice comments to my fleet :-) guz: i am already registered at brick-yard... very interesting for me to see how these cars are modified in the UK... reanimation: the roof was horrible, looked ugly and to drive the bus with the mess on the roof, a nightmare. The roof itself is perfect for camping, but not for using the van each day... The panel van, here are two pics : and the latest one: It will be repainted next year, same colour, but there are some dents and a bit rust to remove. Plans are to paint the roof white and add the original writing on it. It was bought new from a local powerplant, and i found the original sticker on the first-aid-kit. Also there is a huge wooden roof-rack waiting to be fitted :-) The whole story including a lot of pics can be found here : typ32.de/bus2/index.htmThe Passat: Built in 1984, mint condition, some period extras fitted (lowering springs, rare ANSA back box), car is currently stored dry and not used.... The Audi : My father bought this in 1981, i drove it a few years and it sits in a dry place now since 1992.... I won't sell it ever.... more pics and the whole story here : www.youngtimes.de

wow, took a while to bring an update ... why ? Well the Bus did his job very well the last two years, nothing broke and it still runs.... now, some rust came up and i made the decision, not to use it this winter and take it off the road... also, driving this in the winter is not much fun, as soon as snow is involved, after changing the job into an area where snow is likely, i used one of the old passats for winter driving.... now, plans were : - remove rust - make a new interior (and also not using it anymore for transporting all the stuff you need for restoring an old house) - fit new clutch and starter -change the look a bit... a mate of me owns a bodyshop, he had a right rear arch left in stock and offered me to help welding it in... and so it all began : we cut out the old arch ( it was a bit rusty due to a damaged caused by the previous owner, much easier to fit a new one instead of rebuilding the old one) bit more rust here.. bit more at the front panel... quite good for the age.. some impressions from the workshop tacked the new arch in place... then it was welded in place... looks good... now, as there were some rust issues, he offered me a new paintjob; i couldn't say no of course ;D so i sanded the bus down, and it was painted yesterday.... so tomorrow we'll be fitting a new front wind screen and then it comes back to my workshop... my mate is also restoring a Type 2a, it is nearly finished, only the engine is missing...

dave : i'll definitly will be there.... with one of the red-white busses ;D so here is the result : fresh in the paint shop... it's like christmas ;D it will never look like this again .... not only busses are painted there.... new wheel arch.... after fitting a new windscreen i trailered it home.... also here, the Type 3 from a friend of me, getting some bodywork done... nice car with a type 4 engine.... Maserati Biturbo and my winter Passat.... so, tomorrow i'll disappear in the workshop to put the bits back together, then starting with the interior....

small progress here; yes, the workshop looks like a mess.... this weekend i started to put some things together; first thing was to heat up the waxoyl ... and bring it in.... after the Bus was painted, it won't ever see snow and salt again... next thing were the new seat runners for the passenger seat; this allows to turn the seat around (when the wife speaks too much ) voila some waxoyl here, too... new filler neck, no longer available from VW... and a new look for the rear seat: so in the next days the alloys will be painted, some new colour for the interior, and then the clutch and the starter will be replaced... so it should be ready for the new season in march....
