How do I like my cars eh? Well to me it doesn't really matter if they are modified provided it's tasteful and preferably reversible. The best thing about modded classics is that at least they are still on the roads and being used. My last project (the Riley) was restored from a sixteen year garage sleep into a twice best of show winner. It was restored with meticulous attention to originality but I would be just as happy doing some tasteful changes to the rekord providing they were reversible. I will post up a pic when I have a little more time. The rekord will be done as and when workshop time is available and will be used as a comfortable everyday driver.

cams472, PM me as I have an offside front wing in primer that meets your criteria - the blue Rekord I bought recently (on the bay about a week before yours was listed!) has had new wings, so I don't need it any more.
May also be able to sort you out with some other spares (carb, starter motor, alternator, headlight lenses and assorted stuff).
Good to see another Rekord saved. Dunno what it is about these motors meself, but I've now had two of them in the last year (sold my gold one - possibly the best one left - to a bloke from Northern Ireland who flew to Southampton, then drove it from Newbury to Liverpool and got the ferry back, a week ago). Blame it on the velour seats and chrome I guess. Mind you, the blue one is somewhat more shedlike than I first thought...are the brakes on your one any good, because mine are pants!

Hi rwelfare and the rest of you. I have posted a couple of pics of my last restoration which was another garage find that had not turned a wheel in sixteen years. The underneath was completely rotten caused by a damp garage and this car took me two years to source the parts to rebuild it! This included two new front wings which themselves were harder to find than poor quality wobbly children's play pony pooh. I saved this one due to it's rarity and the fact that it was a one owner with full history. The car was sold to fund a new kitchen by order of the missus. I kept a spare bonnet badge to grout into the tiles above the sink so that she may rightfully feel guilty for the rest of her natural!!! The Opel now awaits the same fate as this Riley but I just can't put my finger on the reason why I'm going to do it Thanks for the offer of the wing , I will pm you tomorrow about it. As for the brakes, these seem to be quite sharp to me but I have only driven the car for a short distance to check that the auto box worked ok. In fairness these will prolly need stripping because the car has stood for a good number of years.

Nice Riley that. If you get that Rekord looking anywhere near as good, it will put a smile on my face! I'll dig that wing out of the loft and take a picture of it for you. Only bought it about 6 months ago. Pretty sure it only has the one hole for the bumper, and definitely has the front valence quarter on it. I also have: - Spare wheel with good Semperit tyre
- Good front bumper with headlamp washers (just needs one rubber facing piece on left quarter)
- Alternator
- Starter motor
- GM Varajet II carburettor
- Two headlamp lenses and front nearside indicator
- Dizzy cap, points and sundry other bits and bobs
Send me an e-mail at richard.welfare@ntlworld.com if you want to discuss.

HEE. Looking at the rest of this site perhaps my old Riley is a wee bit too staid and original. Not to mention very old : ) Richard I will email you tomorrow about that wing as I have not been about for a couple of days. Thinking about old GM iron.......whatever happened to all those FD Victor and their variants? I remember every other car being one of these when I was a kid but you don't even see these at shows now!!!! The 2300 GLS was a particularly nice motor.

Looking at the rest of this site perhaps my old Riley is a wee bit too staid and original. Not at all! Looks great and I would certainly like to see loads more photos please! The only cars I've owned have been the Amazon (also another spares one), the Sprite and my first car which was a Morris Minor van - what makes this site so interesting is how varied everyone's tastes in cars are. Admittedly my love of Rileys is normally reserved for the twin cam ones, however IMHO the 4/72 is by far the best of the B series BMC Farinas in everyway, although I'd want one with an MGB engine & o/d 'box (if that won't fit an MGA 1600 Mk2 engine and box would do) and wire wheels ;D

The FD/FE club had a stand at the Billing show. I got talking to some old boy who had 4 FE's - a mint 4/90 (been featured in lots of classic mags) and three Ventora VIPs. Apparently Vauxhall only made 200 in black with special trim and they were all given to dealer principals.
I went home and told my Mrs about this one bloke with 4 cars, and how I could be a lot worse with bringing home ropey motors, but she was non-plussed...

Hmm, wonder if its wrong of me to fire up an old post, but i just had to. Them old Rekords are sweet cars, i am picling up a 78 2-door caravan in a couple of weeks. Got it for a song, it needs some welding, but otherwise its fine. 1 owner car.. I also have a 67 rekord, a 70 rekord, and a 76 Rekord. That and a 77 Ascona ;D How the progress on them lovelies? Pics for inspiration to slam.. Hopefully i`ll find a suitable airride system for the caravan. They do look good on the low-low
