Hi, this is my first post and I've been desperately hoping for a forum for retro cars owners to start up - I only found this site from a link on my regular site, www.minifinity.com
Here is my first car. I bought it in 1998 when I was 16, with the intention of doing it up and driving it when I passed my test.
It was based on a '71 Vauxhall Viva HC estate and was converted by a previous owner into a 2-seater pickup. It was powered by a blown Rover V8 (sorry, that bit was a dream I had - it was a standard 1256cc Viva/Chevette lump ).
Unfortunately, being young and naive, I ended up spending too much money on the car (I wont disclose how much), realised nobody would insure a 17y/o on a custom car, moved away to uni and was forced by my mum to sell it - for £20!
It might look a bit curse word (a ratter?) but it had an MOT and was tax exempt.
Age 17-19 I was driving my grandad's '80 Opel Ascona 2.0SR Berlinetta (in metalic bronze!).
In May 2003, after owning a couple of dull hatchbacks while I was at uni, I decided to live a life long dream and buy a mini. It wasnt perfect but it had potential and was at the right price (it was a trade in hidden at the back of a car dealers).
Ive since carried out some mods to the looks and the engine...
...and this is an ongoing project.
In September 2004 I was offered my aunty's owned-from-new '88 E30 325 coupe with FSH.
This was the first time I was able to get insured on my own fast car. So I insured it then crashed it last November...my first crash and I still miss that car, it was perfect!
Last month I bought a less sexy, slower 4dr E30 320 off Ebay, to try and replace the void left in my life after totalling the 325.
I'd been on the lookout for another E30 and this was half the price of most I had seen. I viewed it and the guy was selling it for his son, who'd emigrated to Australia. It was stored in the garage and he couldn't fit his car in the garage, so wanted rid quickly.
I guess its kind of retro?! Its a good, honest car and sounds fantastic after a few airbox mods And it cost me £300 - cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4536321631&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 - Bargain, methinks?!
Anyways, I'm glad Ive found this site. I'm gonna be a regular here from now on!
