I have decided to get rid of our Volvo 740. As some of you may know we bought it to tour Europe in, and so far we've done just that really . I'm currently using it as a daily now, but I think it is probably time for it to move on.
In terms of conditions I would say it's not mint by any means (but the price reflects that), but it is fairly solid, reliable, and pulls well. The body is pretty much free of rust, with one scrape on the rear arch, as well as a few scratches and dents here and there all around the car.
The interior is mostly there, but it's not in the best of condition looking a bit grubby, as well as the rooflining being a custom Union Jack rooflining which is sagging in a couple of places (but not loads) as well as being a little dirty. But it's not an uncomfortable place to be, and the electrics all work .
The engine pulls very well and sounds sweet considering the miles and the age of the car. However it does leak a very small amount of oil, but over the 5,000 mile trip it took around a litre of oil IIRC. The gearbox is also noisy (not super noisy, but not as quiet as one should be), but it has not got any worse since I bought it in January, and the kickdown, lock up drive in 4th still work and the box is not slipping yet either .
The cambelt was changed on the car at 151,000 miles (the car has actually done around 173,000 miles), as was the instrument cluster which have a habit of going on them (It now says 212,000 as the clock came off a higher mileage 740).
This car has also had a new exhaust fitted by the previous owner (the midsection), and in the past has had a towbar with twin electrics fitted too. The car has a Full Volvo Service History up to 80,000 miles, and it appears to have been a VOC car at some point recently in its life .
I am asking £150 for it, and in that comes with until the end of January, and an MOT until then as well. For an old Volvo it also still drives fairly straight as well as stopping well too.
Here are some pics of it:
