Is your car allowed on the road in NZ yet?? Is there much of a modified car scene in NZ? Any magazines? Is the weather nice to cars that might rust ?

Hey HoTWire, Nah the Trav isn't legal in NZ yet - there was a list of things that the inspectors didn't like and it's taken me AGES to get around to doing them. It didn't help that we moved house, got a new job, long commutes etc Anyway, the Trav is off getting a new dual circuit master cylinder and inline booster fitted, new brake lines and hoses and a couple of broken bits fixed. Going Down UnderI also had to get the custom front A-arms crack tested and the gearbox crossmember modified for extra strength around the bolt holes. The cambelt pulleys also need a shield made up for them - the original cover wouldn't fit! I'll probably have to replace the seat belts too... Goddam bureaucrats. Modified cars in NZ tend towards the Japanese imports - Subaru Impreza, WRX, Mitsi Evo, Lancer, Nissan 280ZX etc etc - all lower than low and with big spoiler kits and even bigger exhausts. I guess they're cheap and fast and have all the extras, but they're not to my taste. There are a ton of hotrods lurking around and if you go to the shows there's lots of Kustoms starting to appear - like 52 Chevs with DeSoto grills and moon discs and frenched aerials but original engines - built for cruising, not for speed. As for the weather ... it friggin sucks right now!! floods everywhere, howling gales - summer? what summer? It's pretty good usually, but I suppose not great for rust-prone cars - hot & humid in summer, wet in winter. You need a garage.

Hmm modern Japanese stuff seems to be taking over the world. I guess this whole board and associated shows and thigns are a real reaction to that. Do you get many of those funky Australian cars the Holdens etc.?? Big fan of them. Fingers crossed you can beat the beuraucrats and get your lovely car on the road there. What were you doing in the UK??
