So far I've had: Citroen, Ford, Vauxhall, VW, Opel, BMW, Honda, Mitsubishi, Datsun, Skoda, Volvo, Rover, Saab & Toyota and the only car I've been really disapointed with was a Mk1 Orion. My opinion with regards to manufactures is they all have duff periods, poor ranges or weak engine/transmissions at some point, so either avoid those duffers or modify them untill they're better

I have a lot of BMWs. I'm not particularly fussed with the marque, but they're cheap, rear wheel drive and relatively easy to work on. I now know a little bit about them which has made me even more loyal, for example I'm currently looking for an 24v 525i as an engine donor.

I've had all sorts. I love Benzies, but I've only ever owned the one. I don't really mind owning different marques, in fact I really like it! The only sort of cars I haven't owned is BL / Brit tin, and that's because I was brought up on the metric system - all those 13/42ths spanners and suchlike are still in my toolbox unused as I can't get my brain around them! ;D

Ford - Saab - Rover - Merc - back to Saab
The experience of Saabs being just that bit different meant I've gone back to them. No more Fords - sorry - after a Sierra GLS let go on the A19 at 60.

Current vehicle collection: 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero convertible - in mid-life crisis yellow No new retro as yet ... all attempts to sneak one onto the drive have failed.

No more Fords - sorry - after a Sierra GLS let go on the A19 at 60. Oh come on, I had a morris 1100 expire spectacularly on the A19. I had to walk from Horden to Stanley cos of that, and it didn't stop me buying another one. I'll have anything with wheels. Really.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

I was a Ford man until I bought my wife a Nova in 1994. Despite that, I've gone on to own a few different makes but Fords are still in the majority. About 15 out of about 30 at last count. We've got nothing with a blue oval currently though and I can't see that changing at the moment. I can't afford a RWD Escort or a Cortina, most of the Capris are sheds and I've "done" Sierras.

Got the '79 Cavalier recently had it about 2 weeks and went and got an Audi to replace it. Can't help it just like the build quality of the 80's Audi's and Volkswagen over most other things!

I had Fords for years and couldn't see myself changing. Oddly enough I hated Vauxhalls with a passion at the time and wouldn't be seen dead in one. However (as much as I stll like some Frods) I would struggle to think of another make besides vauxhall that I'd want as a long term daily runner. I have other 'occasional' cars that aren't Vauxhalls and it's actually really good to drive something different.

I think some valid points have been raised and times have changed. Definitely blue oval Fords have got very expensive. They were still cheap when I last bought one, even the Pop which I've only had for a year and a half or so. Parts have also started becoming expensive but I know where to get them and the learning curve from one car to another is low. I'd have to start completely over with anything else and I'm comfortable with what I know already.

---- Some interesting stuff here, seems Fords start off popular, depreciate fast then loads get mass junked when they hit banger status or need something big doing, people want the old ones in mass popularity again, and cos they all got junked and remainders are in demand price goes mad. crazy really! ---- Me? I'm magnetised toawards the blue oval too. Always liked the peoples car charm of em since I was a nipper, and the driving feel suits me well to, so keep going back, but again its the popularity of them is how I ended up with most almost by chance. Toyota did me for parts prices, but I'm hooked VW wasn't for me, Volvo bored me, Nissan, killed em both, want another Micra if am reckless enough! Got some eastern to try, and some GM tin maybe... Going off the idea of American too.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
