Been stretching tyres for a few people recently so thought i'd offer it as a service on here. There aren't many places that can do them and those that do aren't usually experiened at fitting them and risk damaging the rims. I guarantee that the rims will not be damaged. Heres a quick example of some I did recently. They 165/50 R15 tyres onto 15x8 wheels. I can fit most things within reason 165/50 onto a 9J wheel is probably the limit. 185/45 onto a 10 could be done too etc. Matt

I'd be going for a 165/55 or 175/50 at that. Theres also 195/40 which would probably look a bit stretched on a 7.5J wheel.

Out of interest, How much £££ would you charge for a stretch similiar to above?.

I charged £38 for fitting the tyres above as I had to use 2 inner tubes to push them on (they don't have inner tubes fitted just a method for putting the tyre on) and they're a fiver each.

How can you tell if you are going to get this sort of concave stretch, which imho looks a bit curse word. Or this sort of convex stretch, which imho looks fapping awsome. Does it come from a bit of use letting the tyres settle in, or by running higher tyre pressures than normal to balloon the tyre some more, or just less extravagant ammounts of stretch? Or all of the above?

I think it's a result of using tyres with a raised 'rim protector' edge.

Yep the differences in stretch are caused by the rim protector. Can't do much about it.

Ok, I'm gonna go all in and ask a stupid question. As I'm fairly new to the retro scene I figure I can get away with it.
What's the point in stretching tyres like this?

Good question. Looks mainly I think when its an extreme stretch, a minimal stretch I'd expect to stop the tyre rolling over on heavy cornering and keep it tighter for stuff like drifting. *stands to be corrected*

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Rean is correct. Its also used for getting the tyres to fit on a car when using deep dish wheels.

Whilst I love stretched tyres, if you offer such a service and accept payment for it, do you not also shoulder any legal responsabilities for that application of the tyre beyond the manufacturers' specifications? Would hate to see you sued or worse, fella *n

...Just get customers to sign a disclaimer stating in some way that the use of tyres in a way not to the manufacturers specification causes them not to fall within TUV approved safety standards and as such any and all responsibility for their roadworthy-ness sits soley on the shoulders of the user?.
