Cheers Brian, you sure know your onions! I knew they (Perkins) made the brilliant Maestro/Montego/LDV200 engines, as well, apparantly, as JCB motors. I had a couple of LDV200 buses out of work on the cheap and drove them home. They were stupidly quick, as was a Maestro TD I raced one day, the owner of which handed me my 4rse on a plate big time Seem to recall they were also a popular conversion for Range Rovers in the day and I'm told lots of 'series' Land Rovers had the 2.0TD engines hoiked in them. *Sorry for going o/t OP. Here's a cool Guy!

There's a firm called Dudleigh Engineering who do the kits to fit the Prima into Series Landys, they are selling like hot cakes apparently......more power than a 2.25 petrol, as much torque as a bent-eight but 40mpg. Winner!

This is one of my favourite threads ever and made me realise I have to get to a truck show this year. What's the red-ish coloured flat deck above the Cargo in one of your posts please Brian? Looks like a Dodge to me but could be my memory playing tricks. The sad anal ex-commercial tyre fitter in me spots that some of the trucks on this thread have tubeless tyres instead of the original (and dodgy) D20s. Anorak off, I'm going to find some more pictures to add!

These?? Dodge 500-series, sold over here between 1965-76. Fitted with Perkins or Cummins engines (the Cummins V6 diesel was a real screamer, but lacked torque), styled by Ghia no less!!! You'll have to get down for the Classic Commercial Show at Gaydon on June 7th/8th. Somewhere between 450-500 trucks, you just won't know where to look next!!! ;D

Have a thing for Cummins engines since the days Daf 45s used to run rings round my crappy Iveco Cargo. Cheers for the heads up on the truck show, I'll try and get down to that. They used to have one in Oswestry, don't know if's it's still going though. Later Dodge's has the Perkins Phasar engine iirc?

I've got one of those 'Cummins Diesel' badges somewhere. Bringing things up to date somewhat: Isn't it amazing how things have changed in 40 years?? That's my works truck, which develops more horsepower and torque from 4 litres of turbocharged 4-pot than 12 litres of bellowing straight-six did back then. I know old wagons look gorgeous, but would I swap mine for one? Would I b0ll0cks.

I suppose the difference is whether you are keeping one for show use or as a daily runner. Wouldn't especially fancy an old one to be stuck in every night whilst I trundled up and down the country at a leisurely pace personally speaking! Do the 4 cylinder Ategos go pretty well then Brian? I've been put off four pots for life since being made to drive a 75E14 for a few months once. Gutless, hopelessly unreliable, rubbish on fuel and self-igniting electrics ftl. Oh, (desperately trying to stay o/t!) but anyone else remember seeing drivers light fires under their fuel tanks in cold weather to stop the diesel from freezing? Quite a site that used to be!

I love old wagons, even if the truck preservation 'scene' has even more flat-capped 'originality is everthing' old buffoons in it than my local branch of the MG Owners' Club. If you can get down to Gaydon for it, the Classic Commercial Show is worth a visit in June. It's been run by the Commercial Vehicle & Road Transport Club for years now (it was held for years at the BP Truckstop at Crick on the A5 near Rugby), but they've stepped down from organising it and this year's show is being run by Kelsey Publishing (who publish Classic and Vintage Commercials, Classic Van & Pickup, Classic Tractor and Custom Car amongst others) in conjunction with Heritage Motor Museum themselves. www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/events/cvcs08.htmlAnd Classic Car Weekly Brian! (have amended the mag title) I'm hoping to be there as it's my lot running the show.

Ategos go like yer granny on whizz. It's limited to 56mph but my old (03-plate) 818 wasn't...I timed that at 8.5 seconds from 30-50 when empty. The only wagon I've ever known that could get up Birdlip on the A417 fully loaded with just one gear drop, and still be doing 45 at the top. if you see VX03DPK for sale....buy it, she's a flyer. ;D My dad worked for a parcel delivery firm in the terrible winter of 1962/63, and they used to have to light fires under the fuel tank and sump of each wagon ( I think they had a fleet of TK's) to keep them from waxing up. To keep it OT, just lok at this shot of the A6 at Shap taken in 1957. Imagine driving 24 tons along with no power, no heater, no power steering, curse word tyres and curse word brakes. 'Kin heroes, every last one of them.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Indeed, saw that earlier as I enjoyed a bit of You Tube TV! Search on Truck Trials and there's all sorts of very cool off road action. I love watching eight-wheelers off road. In fact, I think I'll head back to You Tube now!

In fact, I think I'll head back to You Tube now! Same here, Yan.......enjoy these random Heavy Oil Oddities: Unsilenced Perkins V8 Boy, would I like to built a rat rod with that in it! Cummins V16 Fancy entering this in the 'stationary engines' section of your local classic car show? 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo with Cummins straight-six in it. So wrong, it's right. Same car, boilin' the hides. ERF 8-legger fairground wagon I'd say that was a Gardner judging by the smoke..... Detroit-Diesel 8V71 dragster Yep......8.72 second quarters! Yes I know it was on the other thread......what a sound, though. 6V71 DD with crash box being driven properly.

Absolutely love these, they're such sweet little things. Dennis F8 Fire Engines: Like these aswell, reminds me of my childhood, seeing them going out on shouts in the town, proper sirens on them too! All of the ones from Devon apart from 2 which were sold in the UK & 2 which were broken up were donated to Romania when they were decommisioned. Would love one of these too: Dennis D Series Fire Engines:
