Would LOVE a go in one of these: AEC Mandator V8, in 1968 210bhp was almost unheard of in a British truck, most operators were still sticking with the tried and tested Gardner 150 with David Brown non-synchro box and two-speed axles, fitted to a variety of gorgeous-looking but gutless Atkinsons and ERF's. Dunno if you've ever heard one of these in full-flight though: Foden 2-stroke, boy could those things scream. The little box under the exhaust is a spark arrestor, the engines had a habit of decoking themselves on the move, showering smoke and sparks. I had the pleasure of following that very Foden on the HCVS London-Brighton Run about 10 yrs ago, the noise on the hills was unbelieveable.

Love old trucks. Driving an Alvis Stalwart (8 cylinder, Rolls-Royce petrol engine which backfires!) was an all-time joy.

Brilliantly engineered trucks.

I used to work with an old guy who drove those TS3 Commers back in the 1960's.
He reckoned that they were so loud, if they gave them the full right foot on the narrow streets of the time, they could shatter the milk bottles on people's doorsteps. ;D

Check out the noise this Detroit stroker makes..... Bedford sold a fair few KM's in the UK back in the 70's with that 6V-92 in, I know of at least one still doing the show circuit. Glorious noise.

Turn the volume up and listen to this.. how does that work then? i have no idea why but i have a fascination with old commercials. always make a point of perusing them at the local classic shows and rallies. some of them are fantastic.
