........righty it needs to be 83>93 16v 1.6 or under small and fast fairly common after a bit of digging it seems to be that the fiesta XR2i wasn't a 1.6 16v until after 93 so that rules it out. oh, its intended use is for a classic touring car series........ so hit me with your bare intellegencezzzzz

in regards to the civic........looks superb, anyone had any experience with them, good/bad cars? Crx's are "teh orsums", the V-tec rev to about 90,000rpm or something daft, go pretty dang well, brilliantly fluid handling, great stuff. Sadly they also rot like anything and many, many have been badly riced - another car that really is pretty cock-on first hit. I'd have one like a shot, but they are really, really cramped inside. I think for the application you want it for that's not really an issue.

Alfa Romeo 155 1.6 16v? That engine may have come out in 1995 though... Alfa 75 1.6, but that was only an 8v. I also thought maybe Fiat Tipo (basically the same as a 155 underneath), although the 16 valve bit is a bit of a stumbling block.

Cant tell much from your description and looking at classictouringcars.com as i dunno what class your aiming at, best way to decide though is look at what cars are consistantly getting podium finishes and are highest in the points, no point asking us as what makes a good road car could make a crappy race car, the guys in the series will know what you want to be competitive.

Didn't there used to be a one-make series for the CRX?

I was going to race in the Classic Touring Cars series this year. Think your car has to be 2wd. I think the best way of determining what is competitive is to look at what is already running. I've seen a Golf GTI and Renault 5 for sale recently - both having competetd in the series during 2007. Have a scout around and see what people are running. I guess you're planning to race in pre-93.
Maybe I could recommend some other series which might suit you - Tin Tops and Racing Saloons (where I'll be racing this year). Have a quick google and have a look.
And if you want to race, remember that a ready-built competitve car is going to be easier than building one yourself.
Oh year, it's expensive too. My blog at the bottom of this post discusses costs but I'm just about to post the full costs of the lead up to the first race which has come to £10,600. The car was £4,500 so you can see that it all mounts up.
Good luck.
Charlie
