Ok, I've posted my Scirocco in here already, so sorry for the blatant self-whoring! but I went and got a proper picture of it, to do the '80s-ness more justice:

I mostly lurk and read on here, but seeing this car posted delights me (in fact, it's the reason I signed up). If I'm not mistaken it's the 'hero car' in a 1991 German film called, funnily enough, "Manta Manta". Either that or the Mattig colours were identical. For anyone interested, here's the original film trailer. And two tracks from the soundtrack. This might be common knowledge, I'm not sure. It might just be the definition of 'acceptable in the 80s'.

Well it´s not the exact car from that movie but a replica. Also made for a german TV show called "Jo motzt auf". The tail is a bit different with a Manta ray airbrush: Opel Manta B Mattig von Henrik S. auf Flickr

Tasteless as it might be it's another reminder that a modified car can become more "historic" than a standard one..

Not normally my cup of tea (I like Mk3 Escorts a bit, but not Mk4's) but well anything with that amount of dish I can't help but like a bit, even if the wheels ain't driven! That is rather lovely in a 90's kinda way. Certainly captures the era. Wide BBS and extra rear spoilers = WIN! I would want to order a few more of the spoilers though just for a kinda 90's hybrid take on the louvred rear window meets Cosworth spoiler: AWESOME!!Surfing the internet I found the picture of my Escort. It's a fake picture. Someone added two more wings. Nevertheless, it looks interesting.

Buuuuuuuuuump! ... I was trying to find a way to hook in Retro Rides Weekender paddock displays to the forum a little more, without it just being "cars of retro rides" type things. Then I realised we have a WEALTH of great paddock ideas here. Figured this would make a good first one, plenty of cool stuff and some things for me to try and track down as well as seeing what people have out there to offer up.
Now, I'm SERIOUSLY trying to find some of the Sbarro cars, or other bonkers 80's concepts that are still floating around, anyone got any leads?

The Racing Beat California Haulin' B2000. ...and the kicker... I would seriously love to do an 80's cal look style paint job on my ElCamino. This would look ace.

My first thought on reading this is the Wolfrace Sonic 6 wheeler, built by Nick Butler's Auto Imagination. I'm sure it was restored a few years ago but can't find any definite information past 2010 so it may be in a lockup somewhere, or in pieces or gone abroad. Someone wiser than me may know the full story.

People were up in arms about something about it, but it escapes me now. I'll double down on my dementia meds and see if it drifts back.

Not sure it belongs here but GM USA considered it perfectly acceptable in the 80s to turn a run of the mill commuter car/shopping trolley into a giant killer.…...and it wasn't even powered by a V8!!!! The Turbo V6 Buick Regal GNX.
