I had a bit of a road trip weekend - had to put 1000km on a car so did a couple of 500km loops yesterday and today. I saw plenty of stuff for the abandoned thread - once you get in to proper country Victoria is seems like every farm has a collection of old cars and trucks dumped on the property.
Strangely all but one of the spots were today.
Saturday was a loop up north. First a different type of retro ride: Victorian Railways K Class number 167. Parked in Wycheproof (population 635 in 2016) which is interesting because:
a) it is home to the world's smallest registered mountain: Mount Wycheproof which is 486 ft / 148 metres above sea level (and only 141 ft / 43 metres above the surrounding countryside)
b) the railway runs up the middle of the main street.
There was also this abandoned garage:
Only spot I got a pic of on Saturday of was this Ford truck in St Arnaud (population 2,193: number of operating pubs 5 plus 2 closed)
Although there were two abandoned car dealerships:
Quite a bit of Victoria is grain country and not much else (for example the railway through Wycheproof is only used by grain trains). To attract tourists to the towns they have created a silo art trail. These are the silos in St Arnaud:
Sunday was another 500km loop but out to the west this time. Not as much to see as Saturday's drive.
First stop was Avoca: more silos and a possible abandoned garage
Then back towards home and a stop at someplace fairly local which is pretty much guaranteed to have some retros kicking about. It did not disappoint...
Jensen parked in the main street
And round the corner there was an AC
Now, those two are really nice enough for one day, but there was more...
Oh look, is that a Lancia and some sort of vintage thing, probably an Austin or similar, right?
Definitely a Lancia
As for the yellow thing, it is just a Bugatti
Hold on...here is another one
Surely not? Yup, another two
This is getting silly now!
Six Bugattis! Seven if you count the one on the trailer that I didn't get a photo of.
Front of the reverse parked blue one for those that are interested:
So, I did 1000km over two days and didn't see anything really interesting until I was about half an hour from the house on Sunday. It was worth waiting for mind you!!
