Well, in my mind I've got a use / justification for them all really....
The lil' golf's would be cool as little runabouts, just for a bit, esp. if we sell our "modern" mobile and are on the hunt for something else....
The 109 Landie would be cool for a bit of winter off-road fun. And you know that you'd always be able to flog an old horse like that on for the same you paid for it...
The Escy would be a bit of a long-termer I reckon, but cool all the same. Again, with the values of MK2's being what they are, it would be pretty hard to lose money on...
Which brings us to the Disco. Interesting. Would make a useful biffabout for 'Er Indoors. But the thirsty V8 would defo need an LPG conversion!! Not very retro I know, but probably the most sensible one out of that lot.

I know what you mean about ebay - about seven months ago, I spotted a VW Golf Mk1 with a buy it now of £175. It was MOT'd & Taxed, plus it was a chrome bumper car (1978). It was also minging looking - the original yellow paint (cool as) was supplimented by huge swathes of red oxide, grey primer and black shultz. So naturally I clicked the buy it now option... The next problem was that the car was in mid West Wales - I live in Hastings, East Sussex. I also got my east and west muddled up, so made the assumption that it was close to Shewsbury... wrong! It took seven hours to get there and a further seven to get home... On the plus side, the car behaved itself impeccably all the way home and has been my wife's everyday transport ever since (replacing a god-awful Fiat Punto - these are truly the spawn of Satan ) and it passed its MOT with nothing more than a new airfilter to get through the emissions test. Just need to get it looking vaguely respectable... perhaps a tin of Dulux would improve it... Oh, those Ebay snap purchases.... ;D Tim

Cool. I know a guy who paints his Beetles and Bay Windows himself using Dulux and a compressor and spray gun arrangement, amazingly once he's laquered it up a few times, and the paint's quite fresh, you could never tell the difference, especially since all his cars are done in a shade he mixes up to be very close to an original bright green VW shade, and he says that he saves so much time and effort, not to mention money, not using professional stuff, that he's able to repaint the car regularly in his council lockup (although he regularly gets evicted for not paying any rent so I'm not sure where he works from at the moment!) so the cars stay looking fresh. He also converts them to run Alfa Romeo flat 4 engines, and from time to time Alfa V6s, so they go like the clappers too! Haven't seen him in ages mind you, I've been trying to get him to sign up for Retro Rides, but I think he's buggered off to Austrailia for a few months at the moment, I need to get him on here when I see him again. So anyway, you should use Dulux, you might be surprised at how good the results are!

Alfa engines? Blimey! ;D I did have an Imp that a rather cavalier fellow had repainted himself using B&Q Fire Engine Red. The story goes that he couldn't find a decent brush so used one that he had been using for degreaser for a while, then it rained while the paint was drying and the wind blew a load of dirt up onto the paint. It did have a sort of textured quality ;D However, I did try flatting it with 1200grit and then T-cutting it and it did shine... sort of. I'm told that the car still exists... it had no right to survive! Tim
