I'll post your question on the site, as there might be a few people who can help. Finding a good replacement gearbox is going to be difficult even in the UK. The 2000E box needs to be the "three rail" type to fit, but they are very rare and lot of standard boxes are sold as 2000E when they are not! The gear ratios are better spaced but externally they look the same.
I know a couple of places that can repair Cortina gearboxes in the UK, but nowhere that would sell one. Are you a member of the Mk1 Cortina Owners Club? A wanted advert in the club magazine might find a usable box.
