OK, now that my blood has simmered after wasting so much money on a poxy 4 door Escort with a redtop that was doomed from the start, I am now getting back into 4 wheels, (Bikes are still a little in front, but it's about time i started and finished something!!!) so! After paying a very fair price for this scruffy old girl, it's time to get my hands dirty and start where i left off years ago! pinto (just under a 2.1) built head fast road cam, cbr 1000cc bike carbs, stainless big bore exhaust set up, 4 speed ford box, and we will see what else develops! I'm torn between slamming it and having a 70's time warp machine....? But! I'm warming more to a lowered large rear tyre skinny front tyre look, and in (possibly) an Audi Grey? Ford wheels, upgraded rear axle/diff, just purchased one outer sill, second one is needed, wings can be repaired, dash needs replacing, but a spare comes with this, that's all I have for now, but, unless i end up broken in bits in ITU and being fed a cheese and pickle sandwich thru my backside (because of a 2 wheeled accident) i'm going ahead with this! Oh! and it will def' have the bonnet opening reversed!!!

Where's that this thread is useless without pics emoji thing?
Go for the rodded in the late 70s early 80s look unless it's a clean original car...

Plan is, 2 litre pinto (slightly under 2.1) FR cam, big valves, skimmed head, cbr 1000 Bike carbs, 4 speed Ford box, then upgrade the suspension, as suggested by a previous reader, possibly Hillman roller bearings for the front legs, I am contemplating Alleycat alloys, but this will be one of the last decisions, I'm moving into a new home with a good sized garage in a couple of weeks so I can get stuck in! One thing I will have is a pair of wide boots at the rear! more to follow......

Car looks vaguely familiar 🤔. Did the guy have several others, as well as a selection of Maestro’s, Mazda 323Fs’ amongst other stuff? Picked up an Audi 80 2 door for a friend a few years back and looked at a Hunter estate there but it was pretty rough.

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

So after giving the pinto block a good look over, it was decided the block was only good for scrap! another 205 for the bin! there were minor rough spots in one of the bores, thankfully the pistons were good, as were the rings, however, i needed another block! Then my good friend Richard offered me a fantastic deal! A newly honed 2.1 block with new mahle 2.1 pistons for my pistons as he has a block that is perfect for them.... How Lucky and Thankful am I? The head has gone off the be skimmed, then the head will be rebuilt carefully! Then it's time for the car to be tore back, repaired and then sprayed, new pics to follow soon.

Started to replace the pistons, managed to drop one of the used ones (which are still good to use)and minor damage sustained! head has gone off to be skimmed, and i have decided to go with a set of banded steels that were made from Ford space savers, Hoping to get a few pics next week. the main hold up is because of moving homes, my new residence has a garage so I will have a home for the car. I'm still in two minds whether to continue looking for an alternative pinto rocker cover, modify one of my standard ones, or just leave the idea alone!!! Onwards and upwards......
