We went out on strike (a local dispute) in December 1983 and we ended up being out for 14 months, all to no avail, they wiped out the coal industry anyway and have tried hard to eradicate all traces of it over the last 40 years  Still we had to try  Deffo mate, I wasn't there (born in 83') but have a massive interest and respect for it all. As I went for the car Saturday I missed out on this in village up from me, gutted!!  |

Friday was a bit of a tinker day.
Removed the rear wiper, tinted the rear lights all red, painted the lower bumpers and handles black, made some centre caps as I lost one of the bbs ones and finally dropped it some more.

Very good. Better choice than the golf in my eyes. Most definitely, I've had a B3 and B5.5. Only down side is it's not diesel |

I used to have a b3 that suffered from a leak into the drivers footwell.
Open the bonnet and take the plastic trim out of the scuttle. There are various grommets in the scuttle where some wires and the boot release come through the metal, and some holes that are blanked off. Check all the grommets and holes and seal them up with butyl sealing tape.
The screens are bonded in on these so it's unlikely to be the screen. If it has a sunroof check the drain pipes, they run down the a-pillars and drain out inside the front wing/sill are IIRC.

I had one of these on a P reg, it was a 2.0 and apart from being a little bit thirsty as it seemed to be quite low geared it was great. The back is absolutley cavenous which was ideal as I was renovatin a house at the time and it would swallow most things, even 4.2m floor joists only just stuck out the back and needed the tailgate tieing down.
I bought it for £170 back in 2010 needing a cam follower, I undid the camshaft and lifted it up at one end and replaced the offending follower which had worn through on the top and then put it back together. The cam lobe was bit chipped but it never seemed to be a problem.
I did 20K miles in it in 18 monthts and apart from tyres and a rear exhaust box the only issues were the oil pressure switch failed and started leaking and the igniton switch failed and wouldn't turn the starter. Installing a momentary switch on the starter circuit was a good work around and the car was great. I did the cambelt and oil and filter etc. and it was totally reliable even trapsing up and down to london for work.
I gave it to my mate who then used it as a run about and tow car for his garage and he had it for a good few years before he stopped using it and it got left, not sure what happened to it in the end.
It was the best car I've ever had.

So a few updates to add here, nothing major mod wise. Firstly I decided to put a nice long gouge in one side of it ffs!!     There are several massive boulders scattered a long the track leading from my unit, I was texting whilst driving out and hit one. Initially thought it was the underside catching. |
