Thanks for all the replies here! Apologies for not replying but its taken 10 months to buy this house from the seller and I could bare replying here thinking we wouldn't get it. Yesterday we got the keys so I headed straight round to see the state of the garden... its a bit overgrown since I last saw it! I could do with making this Dog safe over the next few days so if anyone notices any weeds that could be harmful please let me know, I don't know a lot about gardening. Also I've seen a pretty cheap petrol strimmer locally so thinking maybe it would be useful to get rid of this stuff or is that overkill? All advice welcome. I guess this stuff wants pulling out so it doesnt spread seeds ? I guess strimming it would might light work of the job though. As the Escort needs welding i'm hoping to get some space cleared at the bottom of the ramp (where I'm stood in this photo) and maybe sorn it till I can find the cash or weld it myself. The garage will have to take a back seat for now so I'll probably keep my rented one on for the Capri and buy a decent cover for the Escort as I don't want to drive it much until it welded up. Hoping this means I can buy a 3rd cheap modern run around but so far thats not going down with my girlfriend. one of the first jobs is to sort the bolts out on these doors and treat them to some sort of paint/wood preservative. It seems like the bolts are gone up from the back but that means you cant get out of the garden so I need to flip the round Also once the tree at the front has been removed (I don't like doing this but its starting to lean and came up on the survey) I'm thinking we could widen the gate a bit but keep these posts which are quite nice. We like the 5 bar gate look which would probably go well with the final look for the drive so need to see if I can hang one onto these. If you were wondering how big the tree is... its hard to see the house anymore.

Its a good question. Might be split I don't think its two. The other tree related potential problem is the bottom of the garden. I think its a poplar tree that apparently sheds branches. One neighbour told me that and was discouraging me from putting a garage at the bottom due to that. Not a problem right now so I can keep my eye on that. Its not in my garden.

Day 3 of working on the house properly, while the walls are drying inside I got my borrowed strimmer (my Dad trying it here) and tried to get the garden into shape. Need to give it a mow before winter sets in... also the dog has to bound around the grass to have a wee. Cleaned up the end of the garden where I hope to put a garage at some point. One of the neighbours seemed to think there was a garage down there at some point. Started freshening up the wibblepoo gates with millennial grey. The Capri is becoming a good DIY vehicle.

No real updates yet as I cant do anything while we are sorting the house out and making it liveable for next month. Managed to drive the Capri down the ramp into the garden which was easy enough. Currently thinking about what to do with the Cars/my rented garage. The Escort has a massive rust hole in the inner wing so I thought about driving it over there, cutting the rust out/treating it and sticking a good car cover on it for winter untill I can find a welder or learn myself. The Capri is ok but lives in a garage down the road from my current address so I've realised I'll end up carless doing it this way. Wondering if I could car cover them both (Capri leaks water in like a siv) and save the £80 a month from my rented garage. Trying to angle for a 3rd cheapo runaround but I might as well spend the money on the Escort then.

Get something like this of Facebook and some roof sheets etc and build a bit of a temporary garage. Garden and house look great.

Cheers for the ideas guys! I was looking for those clark type garages on facebook marketplace. Not sure if it will get the thumbs up from my girlfriend as I've been told to not make it looks like an eyesore haha. Maybe I'll just have to grin and bear it till I can find a local free sectional garage.
I was really up for a lean to/car port but the neighbours said they were keen to do a joint car port and maybe remove the fence in the middle (this is without me saying anything). I think this would take away our privacy so going to forget this and spend any money where I can in the garden. The other side has also been talking about extensions so just going to keep my head down for now.

The way anything old school Ford is targeted I'd be bringing them home as quick as possible! I pay £50 & £60 for my rented garages but I'm further in the suburbs probably and they are cheap considering the normal rates. Always handy to have mind you. Clarke temp garage would do the job and look quite smart, sheltered on one side as well so should be strong enough until you can build the super dooper garage at the end

right so after a month of decorating and some hectic van driving... we moved in! At first I've just bought the Capri over but someone in the area is going to do some welding for me (i think) on the Escort so I just got that as well today. After thinking about buying Car covers and talking to my Girlfriend about how to tackle this It looks like the Clark Garage might be a goer, If I can make it not look Sh*t. I need to mesure the bottom of the Garden and Also see I can get the Escort past the edge of the grass as there is a bush one side and a concrete edge to the grass that sticks up. Hopefully some pruning would sort this. Not sure if this would fit two cars length wise but that might be a good option. Next doors will hate me haha! www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-cig81224-heavy-duty-instant-garage--dar/

After work today I decided to buy an 80p ball of string and map out the size of the garage i've seen. Unfortunately I found out the size of the photo machine mart/ Clarke use is the bigger "garage" and the one they are sell at 7.3 meters is basically a one car garage. I don't know why I didn sus that last night but seeing it pegged out was a bit disheartening. Although, It still might be a good buy as I could sack off my rented garage. After some standing about looking at this I decided to cut the bushes back and see if the Escort would get through without getting scuffed by the branches or nackaring the sill on the concrete flag. Still thinking I might drop a message for the this garage or keep any eye out. Looks like one will still have to go under a car cover or something though unless a bigger one comes up.

Still no garage update. Did fail to pick up a garden shed this week that looked like a railway signal box, maybe for the best as I think I need to remember to get these two in the dry. A bit of winter prep on the Escort today now the welding has been done. IF I'm keeping the cars down here should I be worried about damp rising up from the floor?

Facebook is full of free paving slabs. I’d get some and put them under the car. I built a temporary garage from Solid security fencing. 6 down the side one at the back and one at the front and use the wooden fence as the other side Few bits of timber across as roof battens and some water proof sheets. That will get you a decent temporary garage for this winter. Then the panels are easily sold on

Looking at the end of the garden - couldn't you put in 4 large vertical posts in the corner(s), set into concrete, then brace it diagonally, then put corrugated rubberised roof panels over the top at a pitched angle? It'll be light and easy to build, robust enough to keep the rain off, and if you go full width of the end of the garden you won't need sides or a back as there'll be enough roof to cover multiple cars under there. If you angle the roof towards the front you won't even see too much of the cars from the upper floors of the house and neighbours shouldn't complain. You could put down gravel or old slabs as hardcore if you wanted, too. Easy peasy?

After struggling to put a halfords car Cover on the Capri in the dark I was just looking back over the last couple of comments. Maybe it would be a good idea to build something out of wood for winter. Just looking around for paving slabs and fence posts on facebook I can see theres a lot of stuff. I just need to make sure its close by though as It looks like i'll have to pick it up in the Capri. The Escort is lowered and a 1.1 and my misses is really not up for having paving slabs in her car Just seen these type of fence post holder. Wondering if that would be a good shout and be easier for me to get it into the ground. ... and I guess would mate up to these easily The other thing I've seen is stuff like these Pergolas which I could maybe modify but then again, probably easier to build something similar as it would be too short if the cars were side by side. Not that I've done anything yet but just trying to make the right move with what I do in the garden. I nearly bought a shed the other week which I'm really really glad I didnt. Also missed a couple of those Clarke Garages too. I think for the price I could use that money in better ways but Its convenience over time with those. I keep hearing people say you should live in a house a year before doing anything major etc and I'm starting to understand that although, this is supposed to be a temp structure.

I popped into Selco today to have a look at these fence post Stakes. They are 10cm x 10cm which seems like its big enough (same size as the front door cover posts) From Selco these 2.4 meter posts are £11.60 and would probably be high enough at the front if I had it slopping backwards for the rain run off. Escort is about 190 cm wide and the Capri will be the same so 2 meters a car(ish). The capri is aprox 4 meters long as I remember. And not that this photo tells you anything but from the neighbours fence I get about 5 Meters 20/30 to the trees. The only other thing, which might be me getting greedy now but, it would be nice to have a shed of sorts too as I've got no storage for car parts and the welder I want to buy etc. So I'm wondering if I could make a side shed to the Car port like this... but way less grand, but not wibblepoo at the same time. Got excited when I saw this £30 discounted door. I haven’t drawn any plans up or costed it up yet but this might be a good idea. I can get rid of my rented garage that I've been too busy to move out of at the moment and spend the money I save on this.

I think Planning regulations state it cannot be here there than 2.4m at the boundary or something like that but as it's a "temporary structure" it might have different rules. Has been a long time since I checked the regs.

Has been a long time since I checked the regs. I think it might be ok although I am getting some conflicting answers about the boundary. The local council interactive site says: > What are you proposing to build? Car Port > Is the car port open on at least 2 sides? Yes (Can be anyway) > Less than or equal to 30 square metres? Yes > Your project is exempt from building regulations For a Shed it says: > Less than or equal to 15 square metres > Your project is exempt from building regulations Most things I'm seeing about hight are to do with 2.5meters regarding garages so i'll be under that anyway.

Scratch that I keep seeing this.... If the carport is within 2 meters of the property boundary, it can't be higher than 2.5 meters. Idea 1 5 meters wide 7 long
