I briefly looked at the subaru for the 850t but quickly rejected it due to the cost of the gearbox conversion.
The only other thing that I looked at was a honda d series mated to a porsche boxter 5 speed but rejected that as it quickly grew more complicated than I was willing to get into.
I guess if you can get a subaru box at reasonable money then it's a win win for a subaru van.
Might be worth looking at the Aussie or NZ platforms as both van and donor are far more abundant over there.
