I thought I had posted a thread about my car when I joined RR back in 2016, turns out I didn't (or at least I can't find it) So here goes
In the beginning ..... May 2004
I've loved and had various 2 seater sports cars since I bought my MG Midget in the early Seventies, obviously marriage and children don't mix with 2 seaters so I moved into 4 seater 2 door cars and finally 4 door cars, but I promised myself that one day I'd have another 2 seater.
In 2003 I found myself in the position of being able to run 2 cars so I starting looking for a 2 seater, my initial thoughts were towards the Fiat X1-9 as I had owned one and loved it, soon discovered that getting one that was in good condition and not rusty was (a) next to impossible and (b) way to expensive.
I also considered the 1970's Opel GT another car I've always wanted, but quickly discovered that the same 2 points applied. Next my thoughts turned to the MR2 MK1, I remember well when these came out and liking the looks of them then, they ticked the all the boxes
2 seater
Mid engined
Open top motoring available with the T-bar version
Stylish and how could I not mention ...... pop up lights
Easy to work on, not to heavily reliant on electronics
Reliable
Available for reasonable money and spares still easy to get
I spent about 6 months looking for one that met my criteria :- T-bar, Red, good bodywork and the right price.
Eventually after many false start and wasted time (some people have a funny idea of "mint") I found this one in Newcastle owned by a MR2 MK1 Club member.
I got in touch with Lee ( the owner ) and he sent me loads of pictures, info and even put me in touch with Paul Woods who had done the rear arches and some other work on the car. I decided to go and see it and he offered to pick me up from the station in the car.
There I was standing in front of Newcastle station on a bright sunny May day when I saw the car coming down the road and into the car park, it was virtually sold then ! I could just tell by the way he drove the car and the way it looked and sounded it was a good one. After a 2 hour test drive (we were having fun) the deal was done and I drove it the 160 miles home to Scotland ( with the T-bars off ) no problems, no strange noises ... I knew I had got a good one.
These are some of the pictures of the car Lee sent me when I first contacted him
To Be Continued ...... If any one is interested ?
NOTE
I'll try and keep the mods in chronological order, at least by year to help with that I'll put the year at the top of each update. But seeing as I'm covering 20 years and there may be some continuity errors
