Nice Buy, Must admitI haven't seen one for a few years,
Most of these big Daimlers were used as limos, and never very popular as a computer/family car. The probable reason whey the car is so unfamiliar to so many people is they were Banger Raced, they are pretty robust, and for that reason "Hunted down" by the banger people, Thus made almost extinct.
EDIT, I noticed couple of nights ago there was a 4.5 Major Engine on marketplace, sounded like a can of worms, but you never know, www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/875125980766558/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Acb858e45-8f8c-4745-80d9-4f79de9be369
BTW, according to FB its still for sale?
The limo version is super rare. And I know a few of the survivors have gone round the oval. Probably more so than have the regular saloons.
As you say, limos are a funny thing for private punters to want to own. Thats the issue the DS420s are facing now. Wedding market has dried up so who wants one? they are hard to sell and we will see some nice examples on the oval in the next couple of years I bet.
The regular format Majestic / Major were a luxury saloon, designed to compete with the Jaguar Mk VII, VIII and Mk IX. They only built 3500 of these Majestics (give or take) and they cost more than most people's house to buy - but despite the Royal family etc prefering Daimler to Rolls Royce up to this point, the sales were not sufficient and well, Jaguar came in and the rest is history. The Windsors shifted their alliegence to Rolls Royce and there we have it.
